A Statement from the HSUUC Board of Trustees January 11, 2020 High Street Unitarian Universalist Church 1085 High Street Macon, GA 31201... We are a gentle, angry people. - Holly Near We, the congregation of High Street Unitarian Universalist Church, vehemently condemn the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021. This assault on our democratic processes and institutions was an assault on all of us as American citizens. We are also deeply troubled by the obviously disparate police and military response to this attempted coup by overwhelmingly White domestic terrorists compared to the peaceful protests in the District last summer by Black Lives Matter supporters. It is imperative to change the way these agencies, and others, discharge their duties and responsibilities. We understand that there are deep divisions in our country, but violence is never the answer. Our Unitarian Universalist principles call us to approach every action with love. We are committed to the process of dialog, understanding, and healing, and stand ready to do our part. We expect nothing less from America’s leaders and institutions.
