If you've got young kids, you may already be thinking about future costs, like college. One tip that might help: once they're done with child care, consider dedicating those child care costs to education savings. #GoodNeighbor

Keep the lights on safely by following these tips while using a portable generator. #GoodNeighbor Always have working CO detectors and smoke alarms in your home. Portable generators should be placed outside and away from windows and doors so carbon monoxide doesn't enter your home.... Give your generator at least three to four feet of space around the unit to ensure proper ventilation. Keep generators on dry, level ground outdoors. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet. Doing this creates an electrocution risk called backfeeding. Don't touch a generator with wet hands to avoid electric shock. Let generators cool before storing or refueling. If fuel spills on the unit's hot engine parts, it could ignite. Store generator fuel away from other fuels or combustible materials. Never store fuel in your home. Keep fuel in a proper storage container with clear labeling. Store fuel on a high shelf or in a locked cabinet where children and pets can't get it.

Wondering what's not OK to store in your garage? Some items might surprise you. Check out this list to see what can stay and what should be moved somewhere else to help keep you safe. #GoodNeighbor Don't store extra fuel in the garage. It could leak and cause a fire hazard. Store it in a shed away from the house, if possible. Don't store paint or home-improvement chemicals in the garage. They may need a temperature-controlled environment, so check the manufacturers directions.... Don't store furniture, clothing, food or valuables in garage. They may attract pests and rodents or be damaged from temperature swings. Do store lawn tools and gardening supplies in the garage. Do store sports equipment, patio furniture and pool toys in the garage. Do store your items in plastic containers instead of cardboard to help protect them from pests, temperature changes and moisture. #tiptuesday #insuredbylee

Install and maintain smoke alarms on every floor of your home and within every bedroom. Roughly 50% of home fire deaths occur during the night while people are sleeping. Test smoke alarms every month. If they’re not working, change the batteries. Never leave food cooking unattended, especially deep fryers and other frying equipment. Avoid using portable and fixed space heaters, as heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fire deaths. Avoid smoking ...in the house. BONUS TIP: Make sure you have the proper Home insurance coverage in place in the event that the worst happens. We are always here to assist. 678.971.1756 #nationalfirepreventionweek #insuredbylee #goodneighbor
