Be fire smart! Practice safety first. If you do have a grease fire, remember, water is not what you should throw on it. It will intensity the fire in a way only a video can make you understand. Be smart! https://www.facebook.com/10150122844560624/posts/10164629438625624/?vh=e&extid=0

DO NOT USE WATER TO PUT OUT A GREASE FIRE! Cover it if you can with a lid that will seal tight to choke out the Oxygen. Or dump a baking power or flour on it if it’s small. Do not try and pick the container up to move it across the room. The handle will get hot, you will drop it, then the fire is all over the kitchen. Be fire smart! Have a dry chemical fire extinguisher in or near the kitchen but not near the stove where the fire will most likely be burning. Make sure you check it annually. Have an escape plan after you spray the extinguisher to exit the room. Don’t turn your back on the fire! https://www.facebook.com/609110565903296/posts/1798920243588983/?vh=e&extid=0&d=n

IOHVFD won the State of Ga photo contest through the State Fire Marshals office. The winning photo was used to promote fire safety in the kitchen. Congratulati...ons to the team of Dannie Adair and Fireman Josh and Josh’s wife Heather Homan for putting this together. Don’t get burned, keep the handle turned.

Here is a side by side comparison showing common home living room furnishings. Natural (cotton fiber we grew up with from ranging from mid 1900-1990ish) vs. Synthetic (introduced as cost savings furnishings in the early 1990’s and current today). This is what most of you are sitting on right now! http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp

It’s fire prevention month. Actually its fire prevention day everyday of your life!! Here is a short PSA (public service announcement) for you to think on. Be fire smart! You have 3 minutes to get all that you love out the house from when the fire starts. Make sure you have a working smoke detector on every floor of your home near the bedrooms (if not in every bedroom), in your laundry room (dryer fires) and in your garages if they are attached to your homes. Charging batteries burn a lot of homes down and go unnoticed for some time in most cases (typically golf cart related). https://vimeo.com/ulfsri/download/463654802/81c88eaffb

This book is a gem and is a treasure for any family coffee table. You can spend hours looking through it trying to figure out where he was when he took that picture. If you haven’t bought a copy you should really consider it for your home and for a gift for your loved ones. It’s a work of art. The Isle of Hope is one of the most desired places to live in the Southeastern US on the coast. True fact! This will allow you to see why that is and just may strike a curiosity ner...ve. Perhaps it will make you find the time to come here, visit and maybe plant your roots. We miss you Sammy but your legacy will always be alive on the Isle of Hope and within the hearts of all who knew you well. Books are always on sale and available at the fire station M-F 9a-4p, cashnor check. Credits cards are not taken here but you can go to Amazon Books and buy it then have it delivered directly home, or up in Sandfly at the shopping center at Sense and Sensibility boutique. https://www.wjcl.com//isle-of-hope-volunteer-fire/34226450

Fire prevention, it’s takes all of us to be fire smart. Turn the handles away from the younger kids reach to prevent unnecessary burns when pots or pans flip over.

Isle of Hope Fire’s own Captain Jim McClain on water history, rights, geology, and consumption. If you hear the term shallow well in our area, Jim has probably dug the well and installed or repaired the pump on it. Jim is the premier water ambassador for our area of the state and southeast US. Don’t miss it. Multi-series documentary begins tonight, 9/21 at 7pm. https://www.facebook.com/1696347717/posts/10208141798458143/?extid=7zRupPHTJcZeb3qI&d=n
