Traveling back in time to our very first awarded project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Completed on time and within budget, JBrennon’s scope of work comprised the design and addition of a new fire protection system, custom fabrication and installation of aluminum frames and glass storefronts, filming, and doors and hardware. Although small in size, our work scope spanned a challenging eight month period involving a two-phased approach requiring coordination with the ORNL ...construction team to avoid remobilization delays and potential disruption of facility work. A very large thank you to the teams involved at ORNL as well as our hardworking crews of subcontractors, Knoxville Building & Construction Trades Council (KBCTC) carpenters provided by Local No. 50, and our top notch Superintendent who made this project a winning success. Since this project, JBrennon has completed over 7 projects at ORNL, earning us Small Business of the Year (construction) in 2020. We could not be more proud of our team! See more

American Ladder Institute Safety Month Week Three: Safety While Climbing Continuing with National Ladder Safety Month, we discuss ladder safety while climbing up and down a ladder. Maintaining three points of contact with the ladder is critical when ascending or descending your ladder, meaning two feet and a hand, or two hands and a foot, etc. Keep your body centered between the side rails; leaning to either side increases your chance of falling or the ladder tipping over. R...emember, if your knees are above the top of the ladder or if you cannot maintain a handhold on the ladder, you have climbed too high. So what shouldn’t you do? Never hurry up or slide down the ladder. Sliding down a ladder looks cool in the movies, but it can lead to serious injuries. Secondly, avoid jumping from the ladder. You can sustain injuries from a fall that is a low as the first rung of the ladder. Third, carrying tools or materials in your hands when climbing is a no-no. It is best to use a tool belt if you need to carry tools up the ladder, but make sure that the tool belt is properly organized before climbing up the ladder. Any other loads besides small items should be hoisted separately by other means and methods.

This week’s edition of Ladder Safety Month, JBrennon Construction, Inc. will be discussing the inspection and set up of the ladder. So, you have selected the ladder that you plan to use, and you have ensured that it is the right ladder for the job. But before you step onto the ladder, you’ll want to inspect it first. Some things to look for while inspecting the ladder include: Ladders should not have any damage, lack of structural integrity, missing components or loose part...s Damaged or worn ladders should not be used The steps or rungs must be tight and secure to the side rails. All hardware and fittings need to be properly and securely attached. Movable parts must be tested to see that they operate without binding or without too much free play. All labels should be intact and readable. Ladders shall be free of oil, grease, or slippery materials. A ladder that has been exposed to fire or strong chemicals should be discarded. All accessories such as leg levelers, paint shelves, stand-off shelves, etc. are in good condition. The ladder base shall be placed on a secure and level footing. When necessary, ladder levelers shall be used to achieve equal rail support on uneven surfaces. The ladder base must have the slip resistant material. After inspecting the ladder, it’s now ready for you to prepare for use. To properly set up the ladder, remember these helpful tips: Position the ladder correctly o Keep the area around the top and bottom of the ladder clear o Rest the base of ladder on a spot away from hallways, passageways, doorways, driveways, or heavy traffic areas. Never set up a ladder in front of a door unless the door is locked or a guard is posted. o Rest the base of ladders on firm, level, dry, non-slippery surfaces. If one foot sits in a low spot, build up the surface with firm material or use leg levelers or mudsills when necessary to provide firm support. o Make sure the ladder is sitting straight and secure before climbing it. Do not allow ladders to lean sideways. Level them before using. o To provide the correct angle so extension ladders will not slip, place the base of the ladder one foot away from whatever the top of the ladder leans against, for every four feet in height of the ladder. Make sure that you secure the ladder properly to prevent it from tipping over Remember, the inspection and set up of the ladder is just as important as the selection of the ladder itself!

Meet Clint, Clint serves as an Assistant Project Manager and Occupational Health and Safety planner at JBrennon Construction. Born and raised in Leeds, Alabama, he spent most of his youth competing in an array of sports and by the age of 16 began working in the horticulture industry. The experience and work ethic he acquired motivated him to pursue a college degree. In May 2021, Clint will graduate from Jacksonville State University (JSU) earning a Bachelor’s degree in Occ...upational Safety and Health Management. Clint developed a keen interest for construction and industrial safety due to his continued work as a laborer in and around the construction industry and the strong influence of friends and university instructor mentors in the JSU Occupational Health and Safety Department. Additionally, at JSU, he was a brother of the Delta Chi Fraternity holding a position as a risk analyst and mitigator. Earlier this year, Clint joined the JBrennon team. During his time here, he has contributed to projects for Centers for Disease Control and Consolidated Nuclear Security at Y-12 National Security Complex. After graduating, he plans to join the team full-time and improve his knowledge and experience within the construction industry. During his free time, Clint enjoys fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. See more

JBrennon commenced a new Centers For Disease Control (CDC) project today at the Atlanta Chamblee Campus. Although small in scope, JBrennon must treat small and large CDC jobs alike with equal care and rigor, practicing strict environmental and safety protocol. We are excited to work with Miller Electrical Contractors, Century Fire Protection, LLC, as well as Komery Mechanical Services again on another project executed with precision. JBrennon will self-perform much of the in...terior demo and build-out with its own team of skilled craftsmen, Superintendents and Safety personnel, ensuring the project is completed in a clean, concise and timely manner well before the Christmas holidays. Thank you CDC for yet another opportunity to perform with one of the nation’s most prestigious institutionswe only hope this project is another stepping stone to larger and more complex jobs. The walls are going up! We are excited to announce that Dr. Chikwava’s Beautiful Smiles By Design dental office is progressing nicely as we move further into the Fall months. After eight grueling weeks of redesign and value engineering, JBrennon has completed demolition, vault removals, saw cutting, interior wiring, HVAC ductwork, plumbing and framing. We are poised to transform this skeleton framework into the flesh of a new building. We are proud of all trades involved and our Superintendent Herman Pruitt for going above and beyond his roles and responsibilities since day one.
