Looking at February 2021 data, the supply of homes for sale fell 29.5% year over year, the largest annual decline ever, to 1.03 million homes.

About 94,000 new in-ground residential pools were built in 2020, based on permit data through September, according to Janay Rickwalder, a spokesperson for the industry research group Pool & Hot Tub Alliance. This represents a 21% jump from 2019, and states such as Arizona, Texas and Florida saw permits rise by 30%. Pools add value to a home, and especially rental value. But this has to be weighed up against the additional maintenance and insurance costs.
