Shop with a Doc, the annual holiday celebration of some of the youngest burn patients treated at the JMS Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, may have lo...oked a bit different this year, but that doesn’t mean there was any shortage of holiday cheer. The event, sponsored by the Burn Foundation of America, brought together more than 40 patients and their families for crafts, a visit with Santa, and the opportunity to check a few items off their wish list. Many of the items available for the patients were donated by BRCA staff across our network of facilities, in partnership with the staff of Doctors Hospital, through The Fred Toy Drive. This year’s event was bittersweet for many, since Dr. Fred Mullins was not in attendance. Dr. Mullins, who passed away earlier this year, started Shop With a Doc in Augusta in 2004. This was his favorite thing to do every year, said Dr. Mullins’s brother, Frank, who now serves as Chairman of BRCA. We miss him tremendously, and events like this help us continue his legacy and recognize the love he had for his patients.
