What makes Rogers Bridge historic? Zoom in on the photo to see the metal pins used to hold the truss design together. Metal trusses were often used for bridges and other structures in the mid-1800s and the stress-relieving ties on the bridge are attached with pins, instead of rivets, to enable give as the bridge flexes and moves. Last month, the city, along with partners at Fulton County, City of Duluth, Gwinnett County, and the Georgia Department of Transportation, broke g...round for the Rogers Bridge replacement project, which includes disassembling and removing the existing steel bridge structure. The new bridge will be reconstructed in the same location as a replica of the original, which will provide pedestrians with a connection across the Chattahoochee River from Johns Creek/Fulton County to Duluth/Gwinnett County. At its Dec. 7 meeting, the City of Johns Creek has entered a partnership with Behavioral Healthcare Link to add a small group of trained clinicians who will be on call 24/7 to support the Johns Creek Police Department. (JCPD) The rotating clinicians will assist in de-escalating situations and provide the necessary and appropriate resources to respond to calls for service involving mental illness and/or crisis intervention with the JCPD. Clinicians will also assist with post-i...ncident support where their expertise allows them to conduct follow-up or better assist on future calls related to a specific case, freeing up the officers and detectives for other non-behavioral/mental health matters. There is no cost for the city’s agreement/services with BHL as it provides mobile crisis services to the community under contract with the State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities.

We’d like to extend our sincerest well wishes to the City of Johns Creek City Clerk, Joan (Joanie) Jones, as she begins her retirement from public service. Fun fact: Jones was the City’s very first employee, sworn into her clerk position in the days following the start of cityhood in December 2006. In her role as City Clerk, Jones has provided support for the Mayor and City Council and maintained vital records such as agendas, minutes, contracts, and more for City Council a...s well as all city Boards and Commissions. She began her public service career in 1994 at the City of Jonesboro and went on to receive her Clerk’s Certification in 1999, became the City of Jonesboro City Clerk in 2002, and obtained her Master Clerk’s Certification in 2008. In 2016, she served as the President of the Georgia Municipal Clerk’s Association. Jones has been a champion and advocate for the City of Johns Creek where she was not only a member of the inaugural Leadership Johns Creek class of 2010 but also participated in the Johns Creek Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy and has put in countless volunteer hours at various city events including the Johns Creek Founders Day Parade; and Jones served as positive and energetic initial point of contact for many individuals, groups and organizations connecting with and conducting business with the city. Her cheerful and delightful interactions with all were contagious and refreshing as she was a hospitable, patient, energetic, and charming ambassador and hostess to everyone: from tours of City Hall, to welcoming students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, clubs and organizations of all kinds, she lived the promise of the city and championed the good of local government. We will miss you, Joanie! Best of luck in your retirement!
