Kid's Creek Therapy 09.11.2020

We're celebrating our friends with Down syndrome all month long! Novario is a Kid's Creek superhero! He works on feeding, oral motor skills, and receptive-expressive language with his speech therapist. He benefits from using the horn protocol to target correct tongue positioning and abdominal muscle strength for good airflow. #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids #Downsyndrome #speechtherapy

"Kids Creek and Ms Lindsay have been so wonderful for my 4 year old with sensory processing disorder and (suspected) ADHD. Patient, kind, prompt, helpful and so knowledgeable... there for us all week long, not just for our sessions!" - Corrine C. #kidscreekkids #kidscreektherapy #occupationaltherapy

We asked Talitha Rector, one of our physical therapists, to tell us about her favorite outdoor activity. She said, "I enjoy exploring new places and going on adventures with my dog, Louie." Tell us about your fur friends! #kidscreekkids #kidscreektherapy #physicaltherapy

We caught one of our young Kid's Creek friends in action, doing her PT with Physical Therapist Priscilla Potter via teletherapy! Working on hip strength helps improve stability globally. Our physical therapists often focus a lot on hip movement and strength. #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids #physicaltherapy #teletherapy #hipsdontlie

Back by popular demand (with a few extra precautions due to COVID), Kid's Creek Therapy will host our Annual Trunk or Treat from 10:00 AM until Noon on Saturday, October 31 for our young friends and their siblings. Be on the lookout for details and a sign-up sheet. Kid's Creek is also once again hosting Dress Up Week October 26-30, and we hope all of our friends will come in costume in preparation for one of our favorite holidays! #kidscreekkids #kidscreektherapy

Today, as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we want you to meet our friend Lucy! She is 10 years old and is in the 4th grade. She loves cheerleading, singing with her sister Rosie, playing cops with her brothers, and swimming. Lucy likes to cheer people up if they’re upset. She’s simply amazing! Lucy sees Toula for physical therapy at Kid's Creek. It's important for kids with Down syndrome to start PT early due to their low tone and hypermobility of joints - strength and motor planning are key! #kidscreekkids #kidscreektherapy #physicaltherapy #downsyndrome

We are so proud of our fearless leader and "Wonder Woman" Melanie McGriff. She's been recognized as one of Best Self's 2020 Wonder Women, making a difference during a very difficult year due to Covid-19. We encourage you to click the link to read the whole thing, but here's a little excerpt: A few weeks into the COVID-19 shut down, Melanie sent a personal email to the spouses of all employees, writes Myraline Darius, the practice’s office manager. In her email she encourage...d her staff’s loved ones to be understanding and supportive during this time, explaining that therapy was a very socially interactive job and that many of the staff may feel empty or isolated moving forward. It is my privilege to have your loved one as an employee, wrote Melanie. https://bestselfatlanta.com/melanie-mcgriff-speech-languag/ #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids #speechtherapy @bestselfatlanta

Typically-developing children learn language and executive functioning skills through something that comes naturally to them: play and exploration. However, for a child with a developmental disability, those skills can be challenging, making emphasis on play even more crucial. In our latest blog post, we explain why play is important for speech and language development, turn-taking, social, and other skills. https://www.kidscreektherapy.com/why-play-is-important-for/

We asked Speech Therapist Alexis Jones what her go-to guilty pleasure is, and we think it might be the same for some of you! My go-to guilty pleasure is listening to Christmas music early (typically when October starts). I know, I know... I'm that person. I don't do it every day, but as the temperature starts to drop and it's a beautiful sunny day, you'll most likely find me with the windows down listening to the NSYNC, Justin Bieber, and Michael Buble Christmas albums! #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids

"I cannot say enough good things about the team at Kid's Creek Therapy. From the front desk staff to the clinicians, their warmth, care and professionalism is always consistent. Melanie worked directly with our daughter for speech therapy and we saw great results, but were also given fun and easy tools to use at home. I highly recommend Kid's Creek Therapy, they are an amazing group of committed professionals!" - Kyeata D. #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids #speechtherapy

We are loving the beautiful fall weather, how about you? We asked Occupational Therapist Karlie Wetherington what she loves most about fall. "My favorite things about fall is the cool weather, pretty leaves, and football season. My family and I love to go on walks and hikes in the fall and we are huge Georgia Bulldogs fans, so we love to watch the dawgs play on Saturdays! Go Dawgs :)" #kidscreektherapy #kidscreekkids
