After reviewing inmate phone calls and video. We now know Julian Tyler Veloz was picked up, almost immediately after escaping, by the black small passenger car in the picture. We strongly believe he has left the area and headed back to South Georgia. Julian was in jail for theft by receiving stolen property. He was awaiting trial. He does not have a history of being violent. Lamar County Sheriff investigators will continue to work this case, until Julian is back in custody. Thank you for your assistance.

This is the link to the new order, signed by the Governor today. https://gov.georgia.gov//2020-executive-/04022001/download

Lamar County Georgia Sheriff's Office 12.05.2019

We are currently going over the Governors new order. This is an excerpt. We hope to have a compressed detailed list by tomorrow.

Lamar County Georgia Sheriff's Office 23.04.2019

We still haven’t heard any details from the Governors office. We haven’t been given a timeline on when we will. We will update you, as soon as we do.

Lamar County Georgia Sheriff's Office 17.04.2019

The Governor put a stay in place order, effective Friday. We do not know the contents of this order yet. The Governor said he would release the details tomorrow.... We fully anticipate the order, giving us guidance, on who and what jobs are considered essential by our government. We will update everyone, when we read the order. We also fully anticipate our commissioners to amend the current local order, to reflect that of our Governor. Schools have been cancelled for the remainder of the year. This personally effects my family and so many families of Seniors. In the words of my family, This sucks. We will abide by whatever the Governors order says and make enforcement orders to our deputies, as such. We need to get on the other side of this. We ask for continued prayer for those infected and their families. We ask for my GOD, your GOD, and Our GOD to continue to be with us in this time. We will get through this together, after all, we are LAMAR! GOD Bless.

Lamar County Georgia Sheriff's Office 13.04.2019

While our Nation is inventing a wheel to deal with this nasty virus, we are learning something new everyday about how to handle a situation, none of us has faced in our lifetime. We have been in constant communication with our Commissioners and Health agencies. We ask that you follow the guidelines set forth by our Governor and Commissioners in this time. We pray for the family, that is very dear to our hearts, that lost a loved one. We ask for continued prayer for our Doct...ors, Nurses, first responders and all essential employees that have to brave the day to day grind with concern for their own safety. A bit of a legal lesson from my fellow Sheriff Howard Sills. Sheriffs have no authority to enforce county ordinances unless they are granted authority to do so by the county commission. Sheriffs also have no authority to enforce any city ordinance unless a city government gives a sheriff the authority to. The county commissioners, and certainly no city government, cannot make a sheriff enforce their ordinances. Sheriffs can voluntarily enforce both county and city ordinances, but only after being given the authority to do so by formal resolutions. City ordinances have no applicability outside a city’s geographic limits and county ordinances have no authority nor applicability inside the corporate limits of any municipality. City ordinances are tried in city courts and the Magistrate Courts are the courts of original jurisdiction for violations of county ordinances (O.C.G.A.15-10-2). Any person can be authorized to enforce city or county ordinances and it is not necessary that the ordinance enforcer be a certified peace officer unless they are arresting someone for violating an ordinance. All ordinances are tried upon citations and the citation must be personally served on the violator by someone authorized by the government entity that promulgated the ordinance (O.C.G.A.15-10-62). You CANNOT ARREST a person for violating a county ordinance except for ordinances for Disorderly Conduct, Public Drunkenness, and Loitering (O.C.G.A.15-10-62). Sheriff Brad White

Lamar County Sheriff's Office has become aware of a scam taking place in and around our area. An individual has listed this vehicle multiple times in multiple states/jurisdictions and has fraudulently collected payments for the sale of the same truck over and over. We want to take this opportunity to remind our citizens to be ever vigilant when making purchases online. Be wary of ever sending funds to an individual prior to delivery of the item and always make ebay or paypal payments directly though the websites and not through a link provided by a seller.
