If you drive in Georgia, this is something you absolutely need to know. On July 1, 2018, the Georgia Hands-Free law takes effect. Official Code of Georgia sect...ion 40-6-241(c) states, among other things, that it is a violation of state law if you do any of the following: 1. Hold, or support with any part of your body, a wireless telecommunications device or stand-alone electronic device. 2. Write, send or read any text based communication, such as a text message, instant message, email or Internet data. 3. Watch, record or broadcast a video or movie. The penalties are as follows: First offense a fine of up to $50 and one point on your license. Second offense within a two year period, a fine of up to $100 and two points on your license. Third offense-within a two year period, a fine of up to $150 and three points on your license. This law does NOT apply: 1. When reporting a traffic incident, a medical emergency, a fire, crime or road condition that poses a hazard. 2. To Police, firefighters, or emergency medical personnel. 3. When the vehicle is lawfully parked. (but not just stopped in traffic.) You can: 1. Use voice recognition (Hey Siri or OK Google) to text, email send instant messages. 2. Use map applications (GPS) Including entering the location information while driving. 3. Use one button to activate voice recognition. Be careful out there!
