In 2020 creativity became my lifeline. It was my protest when I felt so much despair about social injustice. And it was my hope when I was worried about the future. Time for reflection gave me the recharge that I needed to channel my creativity in so many ways. We produced several creative projects this year that I’m so proud of. AFTER - after the pandemic hit and I came out of my fog of how to keep my business going, I launched #LemigaCelebrationsAtHome - curated intimate parties to celebrate milestones safely but in true Lemiga fashion - with so much style! Small doesn’t mean any less fabulous. We did car parades and driveway concerts, and after so much sorrow it felt good to bring JOY with these heartfelt celebrations for my clients. The one redeeming quality of 2020 was a reason to remember my why and my purpose. I feel like I’ve lived 3 lifetimes in 2020! Before the pandemic, the year was shaping up to be the best of my career. Then after the pandemic, the reality of the shutdown completely rocked my word. After 15 years of working so hard to build a business I could be proud of I didn’t know if I could survive months of not working. I had to grieve and let go of what was supposed to be. Then I focused on how I could serve my clients in a safe way and produced some of the most heartfelt small #LemigaCelebrationsAtHome. Despite it being a very hard year I focused on what’s most important and found ways to remain creative. 2020 refined my purpose and fueled my passion for designing events that inspire others to Dream, Love, and Celebrate Life. Marriage is between 2 people but that doesn’t mean we were meant to go at it alone. Having a community of like minded married couples is so important. And having trusted experts to guide you to becoming better individuals and stronger as a couple is invaluable. This past weekend we laughed, we danced, we cooked, we worked out, we learned, and we recommitted to our relationship as husband and wife - virtually with over 120 people in love across the country and even Ghana! The wedding day is truly the beginning and not the end of the journey. It’s a beautiful day to start your life together as a family, but there’s so much ahead to discover and work out in your relationship. I remember when we got married in 2000 and an older couple told us their relationship really didn’t start to get good until year 10. I was mortified and thought I couldn’t survive 9 bad years. Now we are almost at year 20 and I can say there have been highs and lows, good a...nd bad days. The only constant has been love and the desire to become better. There’s no way we would have made it without our faith and help from marriage resources including mentors, therapy, education, and the counsel of married friends. Having a community to support us has meant so much. We want to extend that community to other married couples so we can all have not just long last marriages but happy, fulfilled marriages. A moment of vulnerability - I’m struggling right now. It’s been hard to post pretty content, and all my words seem empty. The best word to describe 2020 is exhausting. As soon as you feel like the worst has happened you get another gut punch. There seems to be much pain and suffering - my own and my friends and family. I keep trying to find the meaning, the hope. I keep waiting to get to the other side of all of this. What sustains me is my faith - knowing I have a purpose th...at is greater than I can imagine. And being grateful for every moment that I get to spend in this life loving others and being loved. I think that’s why I find purpose in planning events. Helping others to feel seen and feel loved. This past week I had the opportunity to curate a gift delivery for a client’s birthday. Every item was selected to bring joy and for her to know how much she meant to her friends. And during a hard week it brought me so much joy to be a bright light for her. So even through the pain I’m leaning into loving others as my way of coping during this hard season. I truly believe that love is the greatest force in life. And if we spent more time loving those around us many of the world’s problems would be solved. I hope I can encourage you if you’re having a hard time right now - whether you lost a loved one, not knowing how your business will sustain during this pandemic, weary of the social injustice that persists, overwhelmed by this election and all the opinions that fly by without any consideration of others, fearful about what the future holds - try leading with love and watch how the light surrounds you and carries you through. I love to describe the South by talking about its rich culture that has created unique art, music, and cuisine that is celebrated the world over. What are the words that come to mind when you think of an event in the South? Mason jars? Seersucker? Rustic? I grew up in Atlanta and started my business in this city that I love. In 15 years of planning events, I’ve encountered countless stereotypes of what it means to be a Southerner and what a Southern wedding or event might look like. But I never subscribed to a limited view of the South, and as a result I was able to build an event planning and design brand that distin...guished my business and allowed me to reinvent the concept of Southern events. My clients crave a modern version of Southern glamour, including all the warmth that comes with being from the South, but elevated in unexpected style. The concept of a drive in party allows guests to be together while still being able to remain socially distanced. In my opinion, entertainment is key to keep guests engaged.
