Drinks will be provided. 3:00 - The 567 Center for Renewal (456 First St) Join us live on our Facebook page on First Friday for a video tour of "Favorite Things," an exhibit of art and fine crafts by local artists for $100 and under. The gallery will also be open for in-person visitors 11 am-3 pm, and 4-6:30 pm. Masks are required. 4:00 Macon Arts Alliance (486 1st Street) The annual holiday show, Handmade Holiday, continues at Macon Arts. The gallery will be open for visitors 10 am-7 pm. Masks are required. In preparation for Fire & Ice, our curator, Megan McNaught, and our marketing associate, Sierra White, went and did a studio visit with master potter, Roger Jamison. Roger taught Ceramics at Mercer University before he retired in 2009. His studio is on his property near Juliette, GA. He has several wood fired Kilns, including a "Japanese style anagama kiln which is fired for up to 5 days with wood alone in order to achieve unique natural ash glazing effects. The anagama hold...s 500 or more pieces and is fired twice a year by a community of potters and friends." 2020 proved to be a pivotal year. The COVID-19 global pandemic has and will continue to cause financial hardship for some time to come. Artists and arts and cultural institutions have been especially hard hit. Racial inequity has also come to the forefront as a national priority that needs to be addressed. Macon Arts Alliance believes that arts and culture can play a pivotal role in uniting our community by promoting dialogue, understanding, and collaboration. In lieu of ou...r traditional Cultural Awards, Macon Arts Alliance is recognizing individuals, organizations, or businesses that have been innovative in their approach to arts and culture in Central Georgia. Who has done something different to bring culture to the community - either as a result of the pandemic or in support of racial justice? Nominees may be individuals, organizations, or businesses. They may or may not be previous Cultural Award recipients. Nominations are accepted from the community (you may nominate yourself), and the recipients will be selected by an independent panel of community leaders.
