Invisible partners on the front lines In the midst of the pandemic, medical doctors have been prominent figures on the front lines. However, many fail to realize that dentists play a vital role in medical relief efforts. Let’s shed light on how dentists are perceived by many in the public, and even by some medical professionals. As a dentist myself, I am well aware of this perception and have worked to challenge it my whole career. Now that every American’s life is being affe...cted by COVID-19, we have seen an outpouring of courage from frontline workers and medical providers in caring for those with the disease. The response to the pandemic, however, has also reinforced a misperception that dentists are little more than tooth mechanics. We are, in fact, health professionals who fill an important role during this pandemic in providing care to patients and lessening the burden on hospitals. See more

Think of dental implants as artificial tooth roots, similar in shape to screws. When dental implants are placed in your jawbone (A), they bond with your natural bone. They become a sturdy base for supporting one or more artificial teeth, called crowns. A connector known as an abutment (B) is placed on top of the dental implant to hold and support your crowns. The crowns are custom-made to match your natural teeth and fit your mouth (C). Modern dental implants have been us...ed successfully for over 30 years. They are the strongest devices available to support replacement teeth and even better, they allow these new teeth to feel, look and function naturally. When performed by a trained and experienced dental implant dentist, dental implant surgery is one of the safest and most predictable procedures in dentistry.

The microbes in your mouth, and a reminder to floss and go to the dentist Oral microbiome was subject of crowd-sourced study Date: March 2, 2020 Source:... Colorado State University Summary: Most people know that good oral hygiene -- brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits -- is linked to good health. Microbiome researchers offer fresh evidence to support that conventional wisdom, by taking a close look at invisible communities of microbes that live in every mouth. Their study found a correlation between people who did not visit the dentist regularly and increased presence of a pathogen that causes periodontal disease. See more
