Two paintings by Scott Eakin exhibited in The Four Elements: A Group Exhibition started with a curiosity about how to express the four classical elements from a color standpoint. Why not visit the exhibition and see these large-scale paintings in person? Scott Eakin, The Alchemist, 2021, acrylic on cradled panel. Image courtesy of the artist. @scotteakinart

Did you know that the home of the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art was originally the Marietta Post Office? Opened in 1910, it was felt to be very interesting because of the grandeur as well as all the modern facilities such as steam heating, electric lights and running water. We are fortunate to have some of the features today. This is a detail of the carved wooden door frame by Curator, Madeline Beck.
Join us for a fun afternoon making festive clay ornaments in our socially distanced workshops. This is a great activity for families and quaranteams. To find out more visit: https://mariettacobbartmuseum.org//ornament-workshop-for-/
We just love the shadows at play in Kevin Chambers' "Alegoria" exhibition, which you can view in our Mezzanine Galleries. Make sure to set plans to visit MCMA this weekend and see our two solo exhibitions of artwork by Larry Walker and Kevin Chambers. Exhibitions are open through December 13. . . . Throwback Thursday. Whilst clearing out our archives we were excited to find a collection of photographs from a bygone era. This is the Marietta Paid Fire Department in 1910 and behind it you can see the newly built Marietta Post Office, which later became the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.
It's an exciting day when the pottery class sees what comes out of the glaze firing! We use Amaco Potter's Choice and Celadon glazes that can be layered over each other to create varied and wondrous results.
It’s Election Day! A detail shot of Larry Walker’s Urban Doorway with Messages, Wall Spirits, and Other Sanctuary Manifestations (2019), which is currently on exhibit, emphasizes the importance of voting. #VOTE2020
Take a look at this artwork in MCMA's Permanent Collection that will give you some Halloween vibes... "Study for Views" (1987), Peter Nadin, mixed media on paper [1995.003.002]. For years, Peter Nadin was an extremely successful painter but reevaluated his relationship to art and departed the city to become a farmer in the Catskills of New York. Nadin continued to teach at Cooper Union and recently resumed consistent making and exhibiting of his art.
