Tonight RSS Gainesville happily welcomes Edgar Rafael to our family! Edgar is a senior at Forsyth Central high school, he is joining the Marine Corps because he wants to do more than the average person. Edgar is also looking forward to the training he will receive as a United States Marine and to developing a skill set that will last him a lifetime. Welcome aboard Poolee Edgar Rafael!
It’s a bittersweet evening in RSS Gainesville, as we celebrate SSgt Norris as he leaves us for Warrant Officer training in the next few days and we commiserate with him as he grows even older today. Or do we celebrate his birthday and commiserate as he departs the RSS Gainesville family? Who knows? ... Regardless, we wish you fair winds and following seas, and many more birthdays.

Today RSS Gainesville bids ‘farewell for now’ to Nick Stout and Colby Bundy who are beginning their transformation into United States Marines. Both young men have worked hard over the last couple of months preparing for this day, we look forward to welcoming them back as brothers after they have earned the title of United States Marine.
This week RSS Gainesville welcomes back PFC Harbour, who graduated from Parris Island’s 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Charlie Company, Platoon 1002 on Friday 4th January. While there, PFC Harbour distinguished himself as the Company Iron Man, scoring higher on the physical fitness tests than any of the other roughly 450 young men going through training. The congratulations are threefold, congratulations on your achievement, congratulations on graduating boot camp but most importantly, congratulations on earning the title of United States Marine.
Today the Guests, Poolees and Marines of RSS Gainesville worked off those Christmas Dinners and earned our New Year's break. No need to set workout resolutions for the New Year when you're already doing what it takes to earn the title of United States Marine. For those that are interested or curious, Saturday mornings at 0800, you're welcome to come join our workouts, and when you decide that becoming a Marine is something you want to do, we're more than happy to show you how that will happen (Wear workout clothes, hydrate and make sure you eat something before showing up).
