Every dessert that leaves our kitchen is made fresh from scratch. Every day. Our long time baker Shirley put it best- "You're not really livin' right if you haven't tasted one of my desserts."
Happy Mother's Day! Thanks to all the mamas out there who make this world a better place every single day. We’re so thankful for you! If you're looking for somewhere special to treat Mom to brunch, lunch, or dinner, we're here for them all.

Making some magic Every year, we cook up over 15,000 bunches of collard and turnip greens and serve thousands of cups of our famous pot likker. It's a Southern tradition that simply can't be beat!
Tomato Pie is a Mary Mac’s staple, but did you know it hasn’t always been around? We keep our menu mostly identical to how it was when we opened over 75 years ago, but when we tried out tomato pie in 2009, we knew it wasn’t going anywhere. It’s now in our top 5 side dishes ordered and is easily our most requested recipe! Have you tried the famous tomato pie? Once you do, you’ll crave it every day.
Many have made Mary Mac’s who we are today, but few have had as much impact as Margaret Lupo, the grande dame of Southern food in Atlanta. She was the force behind our restaurant for more than thirty years from 1962-94 and is responsible for preserving many of our recipes, expanding our dining room to serve more people, and set the standards of quality we maintain today. She was also recognized for running a desegregated dining room which during the 1960s South, was rare. In fact she forbade it inside the Mary Mac’s doors. She treated everyone exactly the same. They all got patted on the back. That’s a piece of history we’re truy proud to own. Pictured with long time Mary Mac's team member Flo Patrick who worked with us for an impressive 37 years!
Tired of deciding what to make for dinner? Let us do the cooking tonight! Get your to-go order started with the link in our bio.
Meet Mo! If you’ve spent time around our bar you might have seen him shaking up a Mint Julep or his favorite, Georgia Peach Martini. It’s always a pleasure to see his smile when you walk through the door, even behind a mask. Mo has worked with us for 5 years and loves Mary Macs for the same reason we’ve all loved it for so long: I love the family environment. It’s homey and makes you feel like you’re at Grandma’s house. We’re thankful for people like Mo making that true for so many years!
We’ve been overwhelmed by the support since we opened for to-go service Monday and are thrilled to announce our dining room opens Tomorrow, Nov. 5th! We will have rigorous safety precautions in place which you can learn about with the link in our bio. We’re beyond excited to safely serve you again!
The wait is over: Mary Mac’s Tea Room is reopening! We are thrilled to announce we will reopen for to-go orders on Monday, November 2nd, and will reopen to dine-in guests on Monday, November 9th. We are ready to welcome our guests back with the same made-from-scratch Southern dishes we’ve offered for 75 years, served up by the same staff who have become a part of our families over the years. We have implemented additional safety precautions to keep each staff member and guest safe. For the first time, Mary Mac’s is also introducing online ordering and curbside pick-up for guests who want to enjoy their menu favorites at home. We can’t wait to see and serve you again!
It is with great sadness that we write this post today. Our beloved and valued team member, Ms. Ellen, also known as Eleanor, passed on Sunday, June 7th, 2020. Anyone who knew Ms. Ellen knew that she had an unparalleled sense of humor and a loving nature. Ms. Ellen made a huge impact on all of our lives at Mary Mac's. She was a professional in every way, a team leader and simply put, a class act! Many of our staff looked to her as a mother and a grandmother, providing a m...uch needed life lesson and even a laugh when you needed it most! Ms. Ellen led by example, showing us all what it means to be accepting. She treated everyone with respect and welcomed each of our guests, providing them without fail, the quintessential Southern experience for which Mary Mac’s is known. She will be truly missed and our Mary Mac's family will never be the same without her. Our hearts are broken, but we will honor her legacy and tradition by continuing to instill these values in our family each and every day. Services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Boone Cemetery at 950 N. Clark Street in Milledgeville, GA. For information regarding flowers, please visit the funeral home website, below. https://www.carlmwilliams.com/obituary/Ellen-Fraley
First, we would like to say THANK YOU for the overwhelming support of our decision to remain closed. During this difficult time, we have really enjoyed reading all of your comments. We have received many comments from guests who have been dining with us for decades and can’t wait to return, as well as comments from those who will dine with us for the first time upon reopening! Mary Mac’s holds a special place in all of our hearts and we look forward to opening our family d...ining room to your family. In the meantime, we thought it would be fun to share a recipe that was requested by one of our patronsour Augusta Lemonade! Honestly, we can’t take much credit for the deliciousness (if that is a word) of this recipe. The secret is @Fruitland Augusta’s Georgia Peach Tea Vodka. Seriously, it is sooo good, but you can always substitute your favorite vodka and a splash of sweet tea. This one is perfect for the porch on a warm Georgia afternoon. We can't think of anything more Southern than that! Enjoy the lemonade as is, or mix up a little cocktail for yourself. Anytime I visited my parents back home, Daddy would always say "Let's have a drink!" . It didn't matter if it was 2 in the afternoon, or 2 in the morning. Even Though we can't all be together, let's have a drink! Homemade Lemonade (approximately 10 glasses): 1 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice cup fresh squeezed orange juice 2 cups white sugar 8 cups water In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat the saucepan on medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring often. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and allow to cool completely. In a large pitcher, combine the fresh squeezed lemon juice and orange juice with the sugar and water mixture. Stir well. Augusta Lemonade (1 drink): Highball glass filled with ice 1 oz Fruitland Augusta Peach Tea Vodka (OR substitute your favorite vodka, in the same amount, and add a splash of sweet tea) Top with homemade lemonade, stir, and garnish with a fresh lemon slice. Enjoy!
To our guests and extended Mary Mac’s family, We miss you all very, very much! We miss welcoming you to our dining room. We miss seeing all of your smiling faces and catching up over crispy fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens! We look forward to sharing these times again soon, but only when it is safe to do so. While we respect Governor Kemp’s decision, we do not feel opening the restaurant right now is in the best interests or safety of our staff, customers,... or the surrounding communities. We remain convinced that remaining temporarily closed is the best and most responsible course of action, particularly because safety protocols, including guidelines for operating dine-in restaurants during the pandemic, have not been provided by the State of Georgia or City of Atlanta. We understand the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has caused a great financial hardship for everyone. Please know that we are working diligently behind the scenes to prepare a plan for re-opening and will keep you updated as we move forward. Our intent remains to reopen as soon as practicable, based on guidance from federal and state health agencies and governmental entities, while prioritizing the safety of our team members, patrons, and community. Please continue to monitor our Facebook page and website for updates and more information. Be safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon! See more
