ARTIST SPOTLIGHT TONI ARDIZZONE: Toni Ardizzone is a painter combining a blue-collar skill set with refined methods to create tactile paintings and large-scale assemblages. She received her BFA from Indiana University in 2006 and MFA from Florida State University in 2020. The driving idea behind her work is death within life, constructed through a humanist lens and influenced by her personal experience with chronic disease. Ardizzone’s prolific body of work has led to sever...al solo exhibitions across the United States as well as international recognition. In 2019, Ms. Ardizzone was selected for two artist residencies including Ayatana in Quebec, Canada and the Palimpsest Project in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her public murals have been commissioned by Facebook, SXSW, Austin City Limits Festival, and the City of Thomasville, Georgia. She currently resides in Austin, Texas. Check out Toni's free artist talk on Zoom and on Facebook Live on Thursday from 4-5 PM!

"When violence can be carried out on a huge scale without consequences, rather with reward for the oppressors, it becomes a regular way of life." Our featured artist Charvis Harrell writes in RECOUNT magazine about the same themes in his show, Cartoon Violence now on exhibit at the MAC. Come see the works featured here and more in a larger than life format, and even bring a group or a class to talk to Charvis in person! http://recountmagazine.com/to-be-black-in-the-shadows-of-c/

If I make you believe you’re nothing from nothing, you’re going to believe it’s impossible to be something. If I tell you you’re greatness from greatness, it’ll be easier for you to accept. Thank you, @zhrvys, for your brilliant Artist Talk, and thank you for all who came to the opening of Cartoon Violence. Stop by the MAC between now and October 16 to view the show! @ McEachern Art Center

ANNOUNCING Our next exhibition will be Charvis Harrell's Cartoon Violence: Elegy and Testimony. We will open with a unique outdoor sidewalk display and artist talk on August 29. Through art, Harrell seeks to shine light upon the unsightly realities that people live with. Refusing to revolt, he continues his journey to examine the darkness. In 2019, Harrell was featured in the State of the Union National Juried Exhibition. Cartoon Violence will show how the imagery used to... describe Africans in America and their descendants has had a long, cruel history, from the coat of arms of one of the first transatlantic slave vessels "The Good Ship Jesus" to the present-day use of mascots and logos. By exposing the way these images have been used, the lasting effects they can have on identity and esteem, and how they have added to the hardships African-Americans have endured, this artwork is an effort to start a dialogue that begins to look past stereotypes and deal with people as individuals. The show will run from August 29-October 16.
