Here at the MCoE Band Public Affairs Office, we take the time to make sure you see only the best that the Band has to offer. One thing you rarely see though, is what it takes to make those videos. Today, we take you behind the scenes to show you some bloopers from our last video where "River Winds" told the story of "Peter and the Wolf". We are professional musicians. Some of us...not professional speakers. But rest assured, if it takes a hundred takes to get it right, we'l...l do it for the fans! STORYTIME! As many of you know, and may have seen, April is the "Month of the Military Child". Many Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen go through a lot to defend and protect our country and the way of life we lead. A key part to their success are the families that support them. Military children often grow up differently than most children. We want you to know, that we are so thankful for all of the military kiddos out there that go through so many changes... and confusion so that their mommies and daddies can defend our nation. Today, we bring you our version of the story of "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev. If you or your little one goes to a school on Fort Benning, keep an eye out for a familiar sight. The month of March is "Music in our Schools" Month, also known as MIOSM. This year, for reasons we are all aware of, we have been unable to reach out to our future artists and musicians to entertain and teach them about music and the history behind it. So we will be sharing some videos with you here! This is a popular piece that is often heard around Independence Day as a patriotic celebration of America. Did you know that there are lyrics to the song as well? It's a song abo...ut the American Colors, "Old Glory". The American flag. "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa is usually performed by a full marching band, or a concert band, usually of 40 musicians or more. We recently went through a sad transition as Sgt. Robert "Zach" Tamargo said goodbye to the MCoE Band. Not only was he leaving the band, but the Army as well. After 14 years, 6 months, and 8 days of service, Sgt. Tamargo ended his contract with the U.S. Army and transitioned into civilian life. Partially. He is continuing his relationship with the Army in a different aspect with the National Guard. He served the Army Band Field in numerous ways, primarily as a highly skilled ...Tuba player. He also performed duties as an expert in Transportation, Training Soldiers, PAO, Band Operations, Squad Leader, and many more, including being our Santa Claus this past Holiday season! Sgt. Tamargo initially joined the Army as a mechanic, ensuring that the Army's tactical vehicles were functional and inspection ready, and later transitioned into the Band Field to pursue his career in Army music. As is customary when a Soldier leaves, gifts are presented to the departing Soldier by their friends or squad members. Sgt. Tamargo loves to fish, golf, and grill. The "shenanigans" presented to him represent him well and we hope they will be put to good use down the road. We will miss you and wish the best on your road through life, brother. Join us as we celebrate Black History Month by dedicating the MCoE Band building to a man that was integral in the formation of what the band is today. Chief Warrant Officer Robert B. Tresville helped to bridge the gap between racial differences and segregation, not only for the 24th Infantry Regiment Band, but for all of Fort Benning. We are proud to dedicate, in honor of CWO Tresville and his family, "Tresville Hall".

Today we would like to present another video in celebration of Black History Month. Don't forget that we have a special dedication near the end of the month! You won't want to miss it! This week we showcase the MCoE Band's very own clarinet quartet, performing the time-honored classic "Summertime." "Summertime" is from "Porgy and Bess", a great American opera that features an all-black cast. It was created in 1935 and is still performed to this day. February kicks off Black History Month, and we would like to feature some music and history all throughout the month that highlight the contributions of African-Americans to Fort Benning, the MCoE Band, and music in general. We hope you join us every week for a new video, with a very special dedication toward the end of the month! Stay tuned to find out what! This week, we showcase the 24th Infantry Regiment. The largest all black regiment in the U.S. Army in the late 1800's ...to early 1900's. The music you hear is "Umoja" composed by Valerie Coleman, performed by "River Winds", the MCoE Band's Woodwind Quintet. "Umoja" is the word for "unity" in Swahili. We hope you enjoy it. We will never forget Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s trailblazing activism and soaring vision for a just America. After being assassinated on April 4, 1968, we are left with the eloquence of his words that continue to guide us as we continue to strive to become a more perfect union. Of all the years we've been through, this was one of them. We wanted to thank you for your support throughout this past year as we did our best to support you! You would think that the Soldiers of the MCoE Band were the ones keeping everyone's spirits up. We hope that's the case, but alongside that, you kept our spirits up as well! The amount of feedback and well-wishes sent to us from our followers kept us going and allowed us to provide you with music and entertainment to p...ush through those uncertain days and months.
