Is Thankful Tuesday a thing? I think it should be! I wanted to give a few shout outs! First to the South Forsyth MiddleSchool teachers for purchasing, creating, AND delivering baskets that contained everything needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner to ALL 70 Forsyth families. What an incredible gift of time and energy. We are SO thankful for this group of people! Secondly, I also want to highlight an amazing group of people who purchased and delivered fully cooked Thanksgiving ...meals to 25 Dawson families! It’s the first Saturday in December. How many of you are heading out today to grab your groceries for the week? So many of us do this every single weekend. It’s simply part of our routine and is only noteworthy if it’s too crowded or an item we have to have is out of stock. But for our families, this is not the case at all. Each week the topic of food is constantly on their mind. They are HOPING that this meal won’t be their last. They are HOPING someone shows up with support the next week. HOPING they won’t have to go to bed hungry. Hope is all they have. While we are clinging to our carts, they are clinging to hope. Without it, it’s easy to give up. Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Just outside my office window is a large, exceedingly lovely mock cherry tree. In the spring it is loaded in pink snowball blooms, in the fall a blaze of golden leaves, in the winter draped in a rare snow the perfect backdrop to showcase God’s precious cardinals. In the summer it is a beehive of activity as the birds (and yes, squirrels) come to eat and play. It is endlessly entert...aining and a true tree of life. Just a little over a week ago it all changed. When the hurricane came through a large pine came down narrowly missing our home, the cherry tree directed it away from the house as it fell. Sadly, it sacrificed over half of itself to do so. My heart is sick, the birds bewildered, my view never the same. I realize this is somewhat backwards to the verse that over the years of ministry has been so meaningful, but I think it is quite indicative of the year we’ve had. For most of us it has been a year of hope deferred. Day after day of hoping things will get better. For ourselves. For our neighbors. For the children and families in need that we serve. Hope matters. As we launch into this long awaited end of year you can be the longing fulfilled you can be a tree of life that makes a difference to those around you. Look at this! Last Saturday we picked up a literal truck load of pasta meals provided through a partnership between Chinmaya Mission and United Way of Forsyth County (Georgia). These meals will keep many families warm and full this holiday season! We just wanted to say #Thanks4giving!
