Happy Tails to Bluey!!
This is Gunner. He came to us on 4/19 and we noticed he had an injured paw. He went to the vet the next day for examination and treatment and has been kept in isolation since then keeping his paw clean and taking medication to promote healing. However, he has reached a point where the healing has stopped and the infection has moved into his bones. Our only option now is amputation to remove the infection from his body. Our estimate for this is in the $600-$700 range. Please help us take care of Gunner. With out these funds, we may be forced to euthanize and that is not our goal and Gunner does not deserve this! Any little bit helps, Thank you!!!
These 7 puppies were abandoned at our shelter this morning. While the method of dropping them off was not the right way, these puppies still need meds and care. They have been diagnosed with Demodex mange. They have already received the initial treatment, but we need help covering the costs. Because of our shelter being closed due to Parvo while we confirmed everything is clear, these puppies will now be susceptible to Parvo themselves. We can only hope our shelter is now clear of the virus. We are doing everything we can to accommodate those who need to bring in strays due to our current situation, so please call us before abandoning any innocent animals. Thank you.
These young ladies were brought in from Jerusalem Church Rd. If you have any information about them contact the shelter. *Must have proof of ownership to reclaim*
It is with a sad heart, that we let you all know Elvis has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. If you remember, he came to us with an enlarged mass cell tumor on his underside that was about the size of a grapefruit. The funds for his surgery were quickly raised and the tumor was removed the next week in a fairly invasive surgery. The surgery was successful and Elvis has been recovering. However, unfortunately the tumor came back in multiple places and was advancing extremely aggress...ively. At this point there was no other option as there wasn't enough tissue left to be able to remove the new tumors. Mass cell tumors are notorious for coming back eventually so we knew this might happen, but not this quickly. We were forced to make the decision to have him put to sleep this morning as these new aggressive tumors would not allow him to have the quality of life that he deserved. We would like to thank everyone who donated to his surgery and all those who followed his story. Cancer is not limited to humans as we all know and can affect anyone. Thank you again for your support and love for Elvis. MCCHS

Cocoa is back home with her family now!
Cocoa is now safe at the shelter! Thankfully, her bright orange collar had a tag attached to it with her name and her owner’s contact information. We have reached out to them and hoping she will be reunited soon. Thanks for the concerns for Cocoa and for those that treated her with kindness while she was searching for a safe place to stay while she was lost. It definitely take a village!
We are extremely sorry, but for the next few days, we are closed to the public for adoptions and intakes and cannot allow the public to walk through our kennels. We had 2 separate confirmed cases of Parvo yesterday. We are quarantining our animals here at the shelter to ensure their health as we continue to scrub down and clean our facility. Once we are certain all current shelter animals are safe and healthy, we will resume adoptions and intakes. This is the only way we can guarantee everyone's safety. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have a stray that needs to come to the shelter, please give us a call at 229-985-5463 and we will do our best to make arrangements to accommodate you as we wait to reopen. Thank you, MCCHS
