In the past few months we have spoken to several clients, friends, and family members who have received fraudulent phone calls from scammers who claim to be with the IRS. These criminals will try to convince you that you owe money and threaten to take legal action against you if you cannot pay. The scammer will then get you to give your personal information (social, date of birth, etc.) or tell you to wire money or provide them with bank account information to pay the debt. P...lease remember the IRS will NEVER call or email you to initiate contact (they will send a letter) and will never ask for your social or bank account information over the phone. We have attached an article that we urge you to read from www.irs.gov warning tax payers of these scams and how to report these criminals if you receive a phone call or email. These calls could come from any number, but the most common is from a 202 area code, it usually says "Washington DC" on your caller ID. Please go to www.irs.gov or contact us if you ever have doubts about the validity of any individual or company contacting you and requesting personal information BEFORE giving it out.
