2nd UPDATE: Haley was seen again today at the Bridgeport Burn Center for additional wound debridement. Currently everything is open, raw and extremely painful. ...Thankfully no infections, but is being monitored closely. Today is day 6 and new blisters are still forming. UPDATE: Haley was seen and treated at the Bridgeport Burn Center Today. She has continued follow up appointments because of the risk of infection. They also popped all the blisters and did wound debridement. She was white knuckled and screaming the entire time. They told us NEVER use ALOE on a sunburn. While it takes away the initial burn, it dries the skin out. Instead they recommend the following fragrance free lotions: Aquaphor Aveeno Cetaphile Cocoa Butter Vitamin E Oil Eucerine Many people asked what Sunscreen she used. It was a new bottle of Coppertone Sport SPF 50 Spray and it was NOT expired. Sunscreen was also applied twice while at the beach AND ONCE before they got to the beach. On Friday Haley spent the day at the beach from 10:30-3:00 with her friends. They all used SPF 50 sunblock. It was an overcast day and the girls all fell asleep for a few hours. Friday night she was in so much pain it hurt to move, she was nauseous and had a horrible headache. We all just assumed it was dehydration along with heat stroke and a sunburn. Yesterday the pain was so horrible she spent the entire afternoon at the emergency room. They said she has 1st and 2nd degree burns (some have already blistered) all over her back and legs. She was completely dehydrated and delirious. They were giving her fluids and morphine push for the pain. Today we head to the Bridgeport Burn Center. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined a burn like this could happen from sun exposure. She asked me to post this to let everyone know just how dangerous the sun can be. ALWAYS APPLY & REAPPLY SUNSCREEN, DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS AND COVER UP WHEN POSSIBLE. We will keep everyone updated I’m the mean time, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers today
