Today we are celebrating with our patient Emily. Emily lives with cerebral palsy and relies on others for assistance with all activities of daily living. Until recently, Emily has lived with her mother and received care in her home. But Emily has always had a goal of moving out of her mom's house. We're excited to share that a couple of weeks ago she accomplished this goal by moving into a residential facility! Emily's discharge was a bittersweet moment for her Aveanna Nurse Supervisor Lucinda, Client Services Supervisor Brenna, and Nurse Chris. They will all miss providing care for Emily but are happy for her that she is finally getting the independence she's been hoping for. Emily is excited for this next chapter, and we're honored to have been part of her journey! #Aveanna #AveannaGraduate #AveannaStrong

Happy (belated) Nurses Week to Jill Peterson! Jill is an incredible nurse who gives her all to every one of the patients she cares for. We are so excited to be celebrating her today! Jill has been with her patient Maverick since her joined the Aveanna family in October of last year. Maverick's mom, Maranda, says, Jill goes above and beyond for the care of a patient. She always puts Maverick first and helps however she can. She is an amazing advocate for Maverick and incredibly knowledgeable on all of his cares. It's clear to see what a difference Jill makes in her patient's life. Thank you, Jill, for your dedication, compassion, and skill!

This Better Hearing and Speech Month, we just had to recognize Teresa Longino, one of the incredible Speech-Language Pathologists on the Aveanna therapy team. Teresa has been with Aveanna since her clinical fellowship year. From the beginning, she has always jumped with both feet and all her heart into whatever case she was given. Teresa works late and even on weekends in order to ensure exceptional care for all of her patients. She pours her heart into making each of her pa...tients feel special and takes her own personal time to come up with fun activities for her patient to do for every holiday. Teresa is such a refreshing and wonderful example of the passion that our Aveanna SLPs hold on to for the work that they do. It is clear that she loves what she does and puts her whole heart into making a difference in her patients’ lives. Thanks for being an Aveanna All-Star, Teresa. Happy Better Hearing and Speech Month!

Melia was born with a rare genetic disorder called epidermolysis bullosa, which causes frequent blistering of the skin. Melia’s skin may be fragile, but she certainly isn’t! She’s an independent fighter through and through. But even the strongest fighters need a little help every now and then. Melia’s feeding tube is one of the tools that keeps her healthy and thriving. Melia’s condition causes blisters all over her skin, but she also blisters internally, her mom, Heather, ...shares. A few months ago, she got a blister in her esophagus and stopped eating. Since then, Melia has been relying on her G-tube for all of her nutrition for the first time in her life. Melia’s feeding tube made a stressful time much less daunting for her family. This is exactly the scenario I imagined when the doctors first suggested that Melia get a G-tube, Heather recalls. I knew my daughter might not be able to eat by mouth for days, weeks, or even months at a time because of a blister. Her G-tube is doing exactly what it’s meant to do. Thanks to her feeding tube, Melia gets all the nutrients she needs, and her parents don’t have to worry about getting her to eat when it’s painful. I hope Melia will eat by mouth again at some point, Heather admits. I loved seeing her smile when she ate her favorite food (peanut butter), and I miss that. But I don’t want her to associate food with pain. It’s comforting to know that she can wait and eat again when she’s ready. In spite of the challenges that Melia’s diagnosis has presented over the last year, she has continued to grow and meet new milestones with help from her feeding tube. She’s walking, talking, and even wrestling with her big sisters. Melia’s family and Aveanna Nurse Nancy have been so excited to see the progress she’s made and can’t wait to see what else she accomplishes this year. And neither can we!

Sixteen-month-old Zander is independent, adventurous, and sometimes little mischievous. He loves running, climbing, and playing with his cars and blocks. He’s a typical little boy, and his feeding tube helps give him the energy he needs to play and explore all day long. When Zander initially got his feeding tube about a year ago, his parents were understandably a little nervous. We knew we had to get Zander a feeding tube, his mom, Rachael, recalls, but at first we hoped ...to get it out as quickly as possible. I had to remind myself of what I had been saying throughout my pregnancy a fed baby is best. It’s just that I never expected that would mean feeding my child through a tube. Zander’s feeding tube was intimidating and unexpected for his parents. But they quickly realized that this device that seemed scary could actually give them confidence and peace of mind in caring for their son. The feeding tube proved to be a comfort for them and a lifesaver for Zander. We continue to have unanswered questions and new challenges with Zander’s health, Rachael shares. He has more of a problems list than an actual diagnosis. It’s a comfort to know that we can always get him the nutrients he needs with his tube, whatever issues come up. We didn’t expect that he’d still have his tube a year later. But he’s growing and thriving, and that’s all that matters. Just like Rachael said before Zander was born, a fed baby is best. Zander’s growth and progress over the past year is proof of that. This may not be typical or what we expected, but we have found our own normal, Rachael says. Watching Zander continue to grow is the best feeling. I know what it’s like to watch your child fail to thrive. I’d do anything to see him growing and thriving like he is now. Zander’s parents have come to appreciate his feeding tube and the energy it gives their little boy to let his personality shine. We’re so thankful to be part of Zander’s journey and to see just how far he’s come. Happy Feeding Tube Awareness Week, Zander!

William was born last December at just 32 weeks. William faced challenges from the very beginning He had to be resuscitated at birth and spent months in the NICU. His first hospital stay lasted from December to April. He came home for a few months before ending up back in the hospital in September. His family just wanted him home and stable. When we heard about little William, our team was determined to bring him home and keep him there for the holidays. We turned to one o...f our trusted long-time nurses, Marilyn Foster, to provide William with the consistent, skilled care he needed. Marilyn has been an Aveanna nurse for five years, and we were confident in her dedication and heart. Marilyn’s compassionate care has made all the difference for William and his family. William’s mom, Brittany, says, Marilyn came into our home and has become a part of our family. Thanks to Marilyn, William has been able to stay at home for the past two months. He enjoyed his first Halloween and Thanksgiving at home with his mom and two-year-old big sister. Now they are all looking forward to celebrating Christmas and William’s first birthday later this month. We are so honored to have helped bring William home for the holidays. Happy Holidays, William!

Happy Veterans Day, and on November 10 Happy 245th Birthday to my beloved United States Marine Corps. What an interesting year 2020 has turned out to be. COVID-19 and the election have certainly made this year one to remember. In such a tumultuous year, it’s always nice to remember some of the things that don’t change in our lives, like the way we honor our veterans. In many countries around the world, especially the United States, we will pause at the 11th hour on the 11th ...day of November to reflect on what was the end of World War I. On this day, flags will be placed in front of every gravestone in our National Cemeteries around the world to recognize those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans Day was created as a day of remembrance of the deadly cost of wars and in hopes that future wars could be avoided. World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan have all come and gone, and it seems we have learned little in the process. Brave men and women will always continue to serve when America is called into action. These courageous Americans are stationed all over the globe, protecting our interests and serving as peacekeepers in hot spots wherever they may be. This is why we honor the young men and women that have sacrificed so much to ensure that America remains free and stands tall as the leader on the world stage. These are the heroes we salute on Veterans Day, and we thank them for their commitment to our country and our freedom. Here at Aveanna, we encourage hiring veterans, and many of our employees have served our country in all branches of the armed forces. I humbly ask each of you to reach out to our Aveanna Veterans on November 11 and thank them for their service. I would like to wish all our former service members here at Aveanna a Happy Veterans Day and also to our Aveanna Marine Corps veterans a very Happy 245th Birthday. Semper Fi!! All my very best, Rod Windley Executive Chairman

Nurses are heroes. We've seen that firsthand from the incredible nurses we are lucky enough to work with. Today and every day, we celebrate all of our compassionate, dedicated, and hardworking nurses. We want to give special thanks today to Nurse Joe Tarlo from our Melbourne, FL location. Joe was recognized this month by our Melbourne team because of his constant readiness to pick up extra shifts, orient to new patients, and work extra hours with current patients. Nurse Joe is always ready and willing to fill a need, whatever it may be. His care, support, and team work are invaluable to our office team and our patient families. While Pediatric Feeding Disorder is a common diagnosis, it is still often misunderstood. Feeding may seem simple enough to some of us, but it is the single most complex and physically demanding task an infant will complete during the first few weeks, and even months, of life. No family should feel alone. If you or someone you know has a child having difficulty at mealtimes, please tell them about feedingmatters.org. There is help available. #PFDAwarenessMonth #CallItPFD #PFD Feeding Matters

Anissa Jacob is empathetic, eager to learn, and always striving to improve. At the core of everything she does, Anissa has a heart for serving others. That’s clear from her work as an Aveanna nurse and from the time she spent in the military. Anissa served in the army for four years active duty and four years in the reserves. She joined the military because of her passion for helping others and her deep desire to serve her country. When she left the military, Anissa brought ...many lessons with her into civilian life, but perhaps the most powerful was a habit of always looking beyond herself. As a veteran, Anissa has had several jobs, but she says none of them has been as rewarding as caring for her Aveanna patient for the past three years. While it may be on a smaller scale, working one-on-one with her patient has given Anissa the same sense of greater purpose that she had while serving in the military. This year, our Baton Rouge team named Anissa their Nurse of the Year because of her care, compassion, and incredible dedication in the face of COVID-19. The pandemic has brought many challenges, Anissa acknowledges. It has hit home how valuable and essential it is to be a nurse. Anissa’s service is just as essential as ever, and we are honored that she is serving with the Aveanna family. This Veterans Day, we hope you will join us in honoring Anissa and all other veterans who have done so much for our country.

During the month of November, we celebrate and give thanks to our home care aides, HHAs, and DCWs. November 8-14 is the designated week, but we choose to recognize and celebrate our team members all month. These heroic and dedicated caregivers play a central and very important role in our healthcare system. They provide care in private homes and facilities across our country. As such, this week has been designated to commemorate their service. Our aides are caring, reliable, ...and compassionate, and our communities depend on them. Without the integral role they play, so many would go without help and assistance. Those in this field have chosen to dedicate their lives to serve others and provide the most personal of care. They have chosen to put others before themselves in order to serve. They strive to make a difference. In doing so, they form bonds and relationships with the patients and families they care for. They provide care for the frail, the aged, disabled, and dying, and they are often the only outside contact many patients have. From all of us at Aveanna, we thank you for your tireless commitment to the patients you serve, and we are honored you are part of the Aveanna family and team. Happy Home Care Aide Week! Last week, our patient Lauren and her twin brother, London, celebrated their first birthday! Lauren spent her first eight months after birth in the hospital. She finally came home earlier this year only to have to go back to the hospital soon after. Fortunately, we were able to help bring Lauren back home last month - just in time for her dress-up birthday party. We are honored to be part of Lauren's care team and to help keep her safe at home. Happy birthday, Lauren and London!

We're continuing our celebration of the Year of the Nurse, and today we want to give a shout out to Nurse Ivory! Ivory started with us here at Aveanna in May. Since then, she's proven herself to be an incredible nurse with a heart for care. Nurse Ivory helped start Carter's case. Carter is one year old and had never had private duty nursing care before. On her first shift, Ivory walked in the door and immediately put all of Carter's mom's worries to rest. Ivory and Carter ha...ve already formed an amazing bond in the few months that she's been part of his care team. Ivory is amazing!" Carter's mom, Shannon, says. "I was scared to have my son be with someone I didn't know. Spending that first day with her has enabled me to work without worry. I know Carter is in amazing hands. I honestly believe my son hates it when Ivory leaves!" It's clear Carter loves having Ivory as his nurse. And Ivory definitely loves being an Aveanna nurse! I have only been employed with Aveanna Healthcare for just a few months," Ivory shares, "but within these short months I have felt like family. The scheduling department and nursing supervisors put their hearts into their jobs. I'm so thankful to be part of the team! Thank you so much for being part of the Aveanna team, Nurse Ivory. You are so important to your patient and to the entire Aveanna family. Happy Year of the Nurse!
