Inspirational Friday: Strength for The Journey (Psalms 73:23-28) Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. (Psalms 73:23-26) In this hymn of praise, the writer extols the glory of God. He d...esires nothing else on this earth and proclaims God as the strength of his heart. We should see God in the same way. Nothing is greater on this earth. He is all I need, all I will ever need. Like the Psalmist, we can take hold of God’s "right hand" and cling to Him. We need nothing more. 4 Things to encourage your heart. 1. Nevertheless God shall be continually with thee. Without pause or cessation; unceasingly; as, the ocean is continually rolling its waves on the shore. Think about that for 24/7 God will be with you. 2. God will hold you by your right hand. It is not a literal taking of the right hand, but is symbolic in nature - a symbol of His help and strength. Think about that on this journey God will be there to help you and give you strength. Therefore; no matter what you are going through He will be right there with you. No matter what you face He will be there to see you through. If God be for you who can be against you. 3. He will guide you with His counsel. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Psalm 32:8. How does He guide? God designed you with a purpose in mind. God loves you. He has a specific, unique and glorious destiny for you. He promises to guide you. God’s purpose for you is bigger than your mistakes. We have made many mistakes in our life, but God has not stopped guiding us. We have a GPS in our car. When we take a wrong turn, it reroutes us. But it never gives up until we reach our destination. You can ignore it or switch it off, but if you follow it, it makes your journey more enjoyable and peaceful. Eventually, it will say You have reached your destination. Of course, this is not a perfect analogy. God is not a machine but a person who is with us on the journey. God wants to communicate with you and has promised to guide you. There are five main ways in which God guides us (the five CSs): 1. Commanding Scripture (the Bible) 2. Compelling Spirit (the Holy Spirit) 3. Counsel of the Saints (the church) 4. Common Sense (reason) 5. Circumstantial Signs (providence). 4. When we have finished our journey God will receive us into glory. Stay with God and stay encouraged.
