What was originally constructed as a home for Alexander Telfair in 1819, was eventually turned into Telfair Academy of the Arts by 1875. This property was inherited by Mary Telfair, Alexander's sister, who transferred the home and everything within to the Georgia Historical Society to become a museum. Today, the Telfair Museums are comprised of three properties Telfair Academy, Jepson Center, and the Owens-Thomas House. While exploring Savannah, you will find many mansions that were inherited by preservationists to create the living museums you see today.

While Jimmy Carter was in the Navy, he was a submariner and served in bo...th Atlantic and Pacific fleets. He first entered politics in 1962 and won the election for the Georgia Senate. In 1966, he was elected as Governor of Georgia. Carter won the U.S. presidency against Gerald R. Ford. While in office, Jimmy Carter had many accomplishments, both foreign and domestic. The foreign accomplishments include the Panama Canal treaties, peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union, and diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
