We saved La Clasica for Dia de Los Muertos a celebration of their life, in other words, a big party! A big part of the celebration is the food. This year we are making mushroom mixiote, a very traditional dish for this occasion. Wild mushrooms, nopales, and onions are marinated in a savory chile sauce, then cooked in a mixiote paper and baked until the mushrooms are tender. We’re getting so close! Día de los muertos celebrations continue today with TACOS ENVENENADOS by @Nibbles & Feasts Have you ever experienced poisoned tacos (tacos envenenados)? Yes, you read that right. A deep-fried taco stuffed with a mixture of chorizo, potatoes, refried beans and cheese The poison. Poisoned tacos originate from Zacatecas in the 1940’s by a taquero, Don Lauro who claimed that his tacos were so delicious, the secret was in the poison. Generally,... poisoned tacos are made with corn tortillas, but I really wanted to try to prepare them with @olemexicanfoods La Banderita Flour tortillas. They didn’t disappoint. The crispy bite was an amazing new twist to this old favorite.
