Afternoon Prayer Praying the Hours on Election Day, Pathway to Peace curated by Rev. Drew Stockstill... Opening: Water and Light, Liturgies from Below We come to praise God to whom we have belonged since the creation of the world, when water was created. We heard God’s voice ordering chaos with the Word of life, illuminating the darkness of an eternal night that saw light for the first time. We come to thank God for being the water that purifies us and seals us in an eternal covenant, and to give all the glory to our creator who has always sustained us, even now. God is our light. May the whole creation adore him. Hallelujah. Amen. Psalm 146 1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. 3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. 4 When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. 5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, 6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; 7 who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; 8 the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. 9 The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10 The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord! Prayer May the urgency with which I approach my work not give way to anxiety. The world is not mine to save. Amen.

Praying the Hours on Election Day, Pathway to Peace curated by Rev. Drew Stockstill Opening Hear, God’s people! You shall love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. Hear, God’s people! Love God truly. And your neighbor as yourself.... Hear, God’s people! God is great. There is no God but God. God has spoken through the prophets. Book of Wisdom 7:22-30 Wisdom, the designer of everything that is, has taught me. Her spirit is insightful, holy, unique, diverse, refined, kinetic, pure, spotless, transparent, harmless, delighting in what is good, sharp, 23 unstoppable, overflowing with kindness, delighting in humans, steadfast, secure, not anxious, all-powerful, and all-seeing. Her spirit can be found in every spirit that is perceptive, pure, and refined. 24 Wisdom is more mobile than anything that moves. She pervades and embraces everything because she is so pure. 25 Wisdom is the warm breath of God’s power. She pours forth from the All-Powerful One’s pure glory. Therefore, nothing impure can enter her. 26 She’s the brightness that shines forth from eternal light. She’s a mirror that flawlessly reflects God’s activity. She’s the perfect image of God’s goodness. 27 She can do anything, since she’s one and undivided. She never changes, and yet she makes everything new. Generation after generation, she enters souls and shapes them into God’s friends and prophets. 28 God doesn’t love anything as much as people who make their home with Wisdom. 29 She’s more splendid than the sun and more wonderful than the arrangement of the stars. She’s even brighter than sunlight, 30 for night follows day, but evil can never overcome Wisdom. Prayer Dear God, fill me with your wisdom, that my pursuit of happiness never come at the cost of someone else’s freedom to do the same. Amen.

Praying the Hours on Election Day, Pathway to Peace curated by Rev. Drew Stockstill Opening MORNING PRAYER... O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise. Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, O God, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Alleluia. Amen. Psalm 46:1-7 Adapted from Liturgies from Below God is our refuge and strength, an ever- present spring in the desert. Therefore, we will not fear, though la migra comes this way. And the mountains close in as we try to walk between them, though the sandstorms seek to carry us away and these mountains are terrifying. There is a river separating us from the city of God, the land of the promise where peace dwells. God, are you even there? Will you help us at the breakage of day? This nation is in an uproar, will its kingdom fall? If God lifts his voice, will injustice melt away. Dios es grande, God be our fortress. Gospel Canticle | Song of Zechariah Blessed are you, Lord, the God of Israel, you have come to your people and set them free. You have raised up for us almighty Savior, born of the house of your servant David. Through your holy prophets, you promised of old to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us. To show mercy to our forebears, and to remember your holy covenant. This was the oath you swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship you without fear, holy and righteous before you, all the days of our life. And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way, to give God’s people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Prayer O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Closing Bless the Lord. Thanks be to God. Almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, bless and preserve us. Amen.
