In our third quarterfinal, Kurt Hansen takes on Orlando Orsino. You can vote by clicking below, by visiting https://poll.app.do/qf3 or by sending us a note on social media or via email. Coming out of High School with all-county and top-16 Metro Atlanta honors, Kurt Hansen was recruited by several colleges before deciding to attend OU. Kurt was a four-year starter and leading scorer his freshman and sophomore seasons before moving to the midfield the rest of his college career.... As a senior and captain, he lead the Petrels to a nearly flawless home record, including some key wins against Division 1 and NAIA teams. Orlando Orsino came to OU from Baltimore where he was heavily recruited by Division 1 programs including Loyola in Maryland. One of the most skilled players to ever wear a Petrel uniform, Orlando was an immediate contributor to the successful teams in the late 80s. Sidelined with an ACL tear his fourth year, Orlando returned with his remaining year of eligibility. As a senior captain, Orlando had double digits in goals and assists, earning him All-Conference honors in the Petrels first season in the SCAC.

On the other side of the bracket, Jay Williams takes on David Crabbe. You can vote here by clicking below to be taken to the poll or by sending us a note on social media or via email. Jay Williams was a four-year starter in Oglethorpe men's soccer, leading the team in scoring all four years. He was elected by his teammates as the offensive MVP all four years. During his junior and senior years, he served as co-captain and was selected as a First Team All-Conference player. Du...ring Williams' senior year, he was selected as a NCAA Division-III Second Team All-South player and finished his college career with 40 goals. He was inducted into the OU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. David Crabbe graduated in 2004 from OU and Auburn University with dual degrees in Math and Engineering. He was a four-year starter (1998-2001) and senior team captain earning spots on the All-SCAC Second Team in 2000 and on the All-SCAC First Team in 2001. He scored 9 goals and tallied 7 assists during that 2001 campaign for a total of 25 points. He led his team to top eight finishes in the difficult SCAC during both of those seasons. He was inducted into the OU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Click below to vote! https://poll.app.do/am1

To kick off our voting for the attacking mid positions, we honor John P. Salamone with a first round bye. John is a legendary Stormy Petrel whose life was ended prematurely in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center buildings. John was posthumously inducted into the Oglethorpe University Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He was presented by his soccer coach, Bucky Reynolds, who called John "the best soccer player I ever coached." John was remembered as being a founder and leade...r of the "Poor Boys," a social club made up of Oglethorpe soccer players. He excelled at all intramural sports and was the cornerstone of numerous extracurricular social activities. For many alumni, no reminiscence of one's days at Oglethorpe between the years of '82-'86 is complete without a story about John. He will always be remembered as one of Oglethorpe's most competitive players and is among its most loved. The OU grass field is named after him. See more

Today we re-visit another bicycle kick. This banger was scored by @devonmpatterson to equalize vs Centre in 2017. The NCAA ranked it as the #2 top play in college sports that year. Enjoy! #getstormy #staystormy #oglethorpe #collegesoccer

Check out Oglethorpe Men's Soccer alum @ryanmarcano scoring with a ridiculous bicycle kick for @chattanoogafc in the semifinals of the @nisasoccer Fall Championship Tournament. Ryan scored in the 77th minute to make it 3-2. Alum Topher Marshall also played in the match for CFC. #getstormy #staystormy #bicyclekick #prosoccer

To all parents, players, alums and even recruits, I recently began my 19th year at Oglethorpe. The last 6 months have been very difficult on all of us: at work, at home, and at school. For me, they have been challenging with many personal changes exacerbated by the fact that a big part of my life with all our players, parents, alums and recruits have been dramatically different. To mix it up - and to try to work off the extra 20 lbs I’ve put on in quarantine - I went for a ru...n around John P. Salamone Memorial Field today. As I got halfway through my run, a flood of wonderful memories began to overcome me. I could see them like it was yesterday: all the players, families, alums at the field over the years. I even felt the watchful spirit of John P. Salamone overhead. I also even tripped quite near the spot where a parent of Greek decent tripped a Centre player who was backing into the crowd to take advantage for a long throw, and that man was subsequently removed from the area. But his spirit is still active at Salamone, I assure you. The run was guided by all those players, alums, parents, faculty and staff that have been a part of the program since its inception in 1961. The next 6 months will be equally as challenging, but I was reinvigorated by running and the memories and spirits that helped guide me. Thank you once again for being a part of our family and helping me on the run. I would never have completed the .5 miles without you! Best wishes to all, Coach Akin
