"I’m joining the cool kids club with Tony and will be starting my first year of medical school at PCOM South Georgia this fall. I could make a really long and sappy post, but all of you know exactly what this means to me. My heart is so full. Thank you for being part of my journey." : @drsciuva Our eyes are leaking as we welcome another student to our Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program! In light of National Health Education Week, celebrated October 19 - 23, we enlisted the help of a few notable faculty members across PCOM campuses to share why ...they are passionate about educating future healthcare professionals. I was an educator before becoming a physical therapist. While my clinical work has opened many doors for me, being a physical therapist has ultimately brought my teaching into clearer focus, says Philip A. Fabrizio, PT, DPT, EdD, associate professor of physical therapy at PCOM Georgia. My teaching role has become more like a facilitator and personal role model exploring a variety of teaching and learning strategies with students as I guide them into our profession. And as a facilitator, I think I can take an equal amount of pride in the success of each student, because ultimately they teach me as much as I teach them. #NHEW2020 #ChoosePT

In light of National Health Education Week (NHEW), celebrated October 19 - 23, we enlisted the help of a few notable faculty members across PCOM campuses to sha...re why they are passionate about educating future healthcare professionals. Educating and mentoring PCOM students is one of my greatest joys, says Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Jason Kaplan, DO, FACC, clinical assistant professor of internal medicine, division of cardiology. PCOM students have strong educational backgrounds and are eager to learn; it is my job to help mold them into excellent, well-rounded clinicians and scientists. For me, it makes it all worthwhile when everything I have taught them comes togetherwhen they are able to answer the tough questions, when they read the complicated articles on their own to further understand complex topics, and when they truly enjoy what they are doing. It is during these moments that I measure my success as an educator, because once they have made it to this point, being a great doctor is usually just a matter of time. #NHEW2020

With American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine's recommendation for all colleges of osteopathic medicine to provide virtual interviews for the 2020-2021 year, PCOM South Georgia began its interview season via video chat last week. Another day, another moment to be #PCOMproud of the work that our students are doing outside of the classroom. Members of the Student National Medical Association Club, a PCOM South Georgia student-led organization, will soon be mentors to the youth of Moultrie through a mentorship program with the Moultrie Boys and Girls Club. We want young students to see people who look like them thriving, which in turn boosts their confidence. These students all have their own individual... experiences and obstacles to overcome, and their story is worth telling. They just need encouragement and words of wisdom. - Chizoba Akunwanne (DO '23), SNMA community service liaison Learn more about the mentoring program here: https://bit.ly/34a9hwp
