For decades, the American Public Health Association (APHA) recognized the importance of public readiness in the face of crises such as natural disasters, infections disease outbreaks, and pandemics. Thus, in 2006 they began the Get Ready initiative. A portion of that initiative is Get Ready Day, which falls on the third Tuesday in September, and is meant to be a day of education and preparing.
