So what’s the difference between the toneholes? Drawn tonehole bodies are one solid piece. Did you also know that Pettry Piccolos are one of THREE piccolo makers that offer a version of the C# trill key on piccolo? Who knew?!?! Over the past years we’ve stayed very tight-lipped about our design and our piccolo making in general. Why? Because excellence requires refinement, and since our premier September 2019, we’ve been listening to the desires of players AND technicians who... want a quality mechanism, but a simple one to repair. Part of that challenge has been introducing a simple auxiliary trill key we’ve decided to call our ‘Omni Trill’ key. It’s a blend of old world mechanics and new age acoustics. In the hands of the player, it functions exactly like a flute C# trill key, but without the mechanical fuss of modern engineering. We took a nod from a legendary historic maker who attempted this design, but acoustically it never worked out. In our opinion, this is the ideal compromise between acoustic performance but mechanical simplicity. The perfect hybrid of vintage design and modern acoustics. We kept it simple. Two new toneholes but only one lever. Easy peasy! We can’t wait for this piccolo to go home to its new owner in the upcoming weeks!
