As much as we try as parents to shield our children from the "adult" parts of life, what do we do when scary things happen? As parents and educators who work wi...th children, the main thing is to reassure our kidsand each otherthat we'll be there to protect them and do what we can to keep them safe. It's helpful to: 1. Take the cues from your child 2. Model calm 3. Be reassuring 4. Help children express their feelings 5. Be developmentally appropriate Links and resources for parents working through these discussions with their children are always available on the PJ Library website, including: Videos from Mister Rogers and Sesame Street about talking about scary or tragic events: https://pjlibrary.org//how-to-talk-about-violence-with-kids Additional resources and discussion ideas: https://pjlibrary.org//how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-scar
