As we have seen increased traffic around the area of Hwy 30 and Benton Blvd, we have also observed long lines to get into the roundabout, which is causing signi...ficant traffic delays and increasing the potential for traffic accidents. Here is a guide on how to properly use a roundabout: Approaching a Roundabout On approaching a roundabout, decide as early as possible which exit you need to take and get into the correct lane. Reduce your speed. Bicyclists are vehicles and need to share the lane at intersections. Therefore, allow bicycles to enter the roadway from any bicycle lane. The law gives pedestrians the right-of-way in a crosswalk. Yield to pedestrians waiting to cross or crossing on the approach. Yielding in a Roundabout Upon reaching the roundabout yield line, yield to traffic circulating from the left. Watch out for traffic already on the roundabout, especially cyclists and motorcyclists. Do not enter a roundabout when an emergency vehicle is approaching on another leg; allow queues to clear in front of the emergency vehicle. Driving Within a Roundabout Within a roundabout, do not stop except to avoid a collision; you have the right-of-way over entering traffic. Always keep to the right of the central island and travel in a counterclockwise direction. Maintain a slow speed upon exiting the roundabout. Always indicate your exit using your right-turn signal. Watch for and yield to pedestrians waiting to cross, or crossing the exit leg. #trafficalert #bentonblvd #hwy30 #portwentworth #pwga #copw #PWEM #roundabout #trafficsafety #chathamcounty #pwpd #pwfd

**long, rant post Rarely do I ever post my beliefs or opinions on Facebook but I just can’t seem to let this one go. Yesterday, me and about 7 other cars all en...ded up on the side of 95 with flat tires at the same spot from road debris. (I am fine and thank God everyone else was too). Port Wentworth Police showed up and was extremely caring, making sure we were all ok and had someone coming or if we needed any help. (One of the officers actually changed one of the girls tires and I wish I would have gotten a picture). I for one was grateful for their dedication to honor and serve. They went as far as to park their cars in the right lane on 95, as to not allow traffic in that lane, keeping the traffic away from all of us parked just a foot or so off the road. (Again extremely grateful especially as my husband laid on the ground literally inches away from this lane to change my tire). It just so happened that one of the cops was standing by me when a car went around his police car and into this right lane that was supposed to be blocked. This cop stood there in the road, never flinched and directed the car back over into the middle lane, and as this car rode by they were screaming at the cop (or maybe me I’m not sure) about being slowed down. I couldn’t make out what he said but I was in complete shock and I watched this cop handled it with such grace as if this happens all the time. I get it was an inconvenience to the drivers, but I would have absolutely wanted this done if it were my kids or any of you to protect you. Never in my wildest dreams would I even think to even raise my voice to a law enforcement officer, someone who puts their life on the line day in and day out for little pay and probably most of the time little reward. It was unbelievable. We MUST DO BETTER! We must raise our kids to honor these men and women not disrespect them. This world truly is a scary place right now. I know there is controversy but we must believe that people are good first. I for one am grateful for #portwentworthpolice and all officers out there. Ok Rant over and a special thanks of course to Gary Hart for coming to save the day!

While on patrol today officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle led officers on a chase. Our officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and found a convicted felon with a 9mm pistol, over 90 grams of meth, oxycodone and a scale with baggies. Always a good day when we get drugs off our streets but an even better day when we get a gun plus drugs off the street from a convicted felon.

Port Wentworth Police Department 16.06.2020

Always a good day when we can get drugs off the street. Officers conducted a traffic stop earlier today which resulted in arrests and seizure of drugs and cash. Just a little reminder that Port Wentworth Officers don’t write citations for marijuana, it’s a trip to jail and gets added to your criminal record.
