Barks and Books

It’s National Pet Day! I love having these two crazy dogs drag me around on a leash and take up my space on the couch!

We did it!!! It is official. Charlie and I are now certified with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We are so excited to be working with Barks and Books in the Carroll County and Carrollton City school systems!!

All of the training classes have been completed. There are a few observations to be done before all of our teams are certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. The majority of our teams completed the first half of the R.E.A.D. Program yesterday. Meetings with the schools to get our schedules set very soon and then off to our first day of school! I am beyond excited and ready!! What a wonderful group to begin this adventure with. Thanks Merilee and Lisa and READing Paws for your day yesterday!! Charlie had so much fun at his last observation with kids at Oak Mountain Academy that he wanted to drive these two for a second visit!! Crazy dog!! He can’t drive without his seatbelt!! He loved being with the kids and thanks so much OMA for hosting us!!

Well Barks and Books handler/dog team training is going really well. We have 14 teams about to finish up basic and about to begin Therapy Dog training and we have 5 teams who have already begun Therapy Dog training! We are all excited to get started in three local elementary schools fall 2019! Thanks to Power of the Purse, Mentor Village, Alice Richards Foundation, Carroll County Ag Center, Clean Cut Lawns and Jill Duncan State Farm for helping to make this possible!!!

Are you looking for a fun way to spend time with your dog? Have you wanted an opportunity to volunteer in our school systems? Have you thought about becoming a therapy dog team? You can be trained and certified right here in Carrollton and work our local schools( both city and county) and make a huge difference for our children. There are still a few days to sign up, please respond to this post or email me at [email protected] for more info or to sign up.( see the about section on this page for lots of information)- you and your dog will be in the schools, during the school day, so that the student can spend individual reading time reading to your dog.
