Happy Memorial Day Red Oak wishes you and your family a very happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. Red Oak is on holiday schedule starting Monday, May 31st through Saturday, June 5th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. This means our office and operations are closed on Monday.... Red Oak will service Monday routes on Tuesday, and so on until Friday routes are serviced on Saturday. We will return to normal operating hours on Monday, June 7th.

Tis the season for cardboard boxes. With how the new sanitation trucks are designed, the only way boxes can be picked up is if boxes meet the following parameters. Boxes must be empty; each box must be broken down completely flat and may need cut down to meet requirements for removal. No more than seven (7) boxes per bundle, and bundles may not exceed twenty (20) lbs. per bundle.... Bundles must be tied with twine, or duct taped into manageable bundles no larger than three feet by three feet (3’x3’). Up to twenty-one (21) boxes are accepted per week. Boxes must be placed curbside with carts. Please consider cutting up single boxes so they can be sealed in bags to fit in container, or break down box to fit in container. http://www.sanitation-services.com/services.php

When I was a small child I would wake to the smell of cornbread and sweet rolls my mom was baking, combined with the sounds of my dad frying sausage, potatoes, and eggs in his cast iron skillets on the gas stove. I remember the warmth, the love with the spirit of joy and hope. My mom so looked forward to the Macy's Day Parade, so once our chores were done, we would sit with our food anticipating the Parade... On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Each year on the fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event. Conflict between the colonies and England was already a year old when the colonies convened a Continental Congress in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776. In a June 7 session in the Pennsylvania State House (later Independence Hall), Richard Henry Lee of Virginia presented a resolution with the famous words: "Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved."
