Yesterday was hard waking up to the news of John Lewis’ passing. Initially it hit me like a ton of bricks, I cried and I prayed for him. As I went about my day I thought about how lucky I was to have met him and talk with him on a couple of occasions. He was a legend, a super hero, however to be around him he made you feel like family. He was a kind and humble man. In 2018 I was asked to restore 22 pieces of antique furnishings for John Lewis’s private collection. I remember ...going into his home and being fascinated with every piece I laid my eyes on. On that day he was rushing out yet he still made time to speak with me and take a photo. On our last meeting I was delivering the pieces I had restored. As each piece came in he looked with amazement at its transformation. He told me that I had did an amazing job on them. I remember feeling so happy and proud. He then invited me to sit and talked with me for about an hour. He told me about his family in Alabama, how he got involved in the Civil Rights movement. I’ll always remember this day and this man.
