The Cherokee Darter, Etheostoma scotti, is a rare fish species endemic to the Etowah River watershed within the upper Coosa River system in Georgia. The Cherokee Darter is federally listed under the ESA as threatened (listed in 1994) and is protected as Threatened in the state of Georgia. Some of the threats to the species are due to the loss of habitat by alteration of stream/river morphology and sedimentation of habitat by erosion from agricultural/commercial activities.
