Had a great time in the studio this weekend working with Melanie Dodd. She is definitely one to watch for!
Recently I’ve had several people tell me that something I was working on sounded retro! I had the pleasure of working on this album earlier this year. Doug Brons is the artist and in my opinion he’s an incredible singer, songwriter, musician. He released this album as an independent artist but shortly after there were two labels one in Japan the other in Europe who wanted to pick up the album for distribution. I guess retro does work!

The longest recording project I ever worked on. I first met Ron Baker at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in a small town near where we live in 1990. We talked for a minute, but I didn’t really think much about it after that. I received a call from Ron in August 1991 asking to meet with me about a possible project he wanted to do. Ron explained he had recently begun working with guitarist Bob Lehman. Ron told me that he had been writing some songs which he shared with Bob. ...They started working in collaboration to finish the songs and they thought they had something very special. We met a couple of weeks later at my studio where they played several of the songs for me. I was in definite agreement that they did have something special. At that point we started working on that album, and finished it fairly quickly. It was not long before the album started getting some attention and doing pretty well regionally. Plans were made to begin working on the next project in March of 1993. Once again I felt we had an arm load of special songs going into this project but right away I could feel a bit more tension at the start of the project. Everyone agreed there was more at stake with this next album, and we had to get it right. After so many years have passed, I can look back now and see we were so focused on making a hit record that we forgot about some of those things that made the first album a success. Having said that let me state we did have some fun during this recording project! However after working on this album for about a month and a half we reached a point where relationships were fractured and the album was never released. It would take several years before we would start the process to mend these relationships. Fast forward to 2013 when I received a call from Ron telling me that he and Bob had gotten back together and decided it was time to finish this album. They asked if I would agree to work on the project and help with its completion. I of course said yes. I believe the songs need to be heard. At that point we had the tapes restored, and transferred to ProTools and I began the process of mixing the album. Well, here we are in May 2021 and I am happy to say this album will soon be released. Here is the first music video from the new Ron Baker & Bob album, If You Were The Only One. https://youtu.be/csLVPjY6a0M

When I started my career as an audio engineer/producer it would have been a very expensive proposition to hire a mixing engineer. Overtime I realized the mixing part of the project was what I enjoyed most about the recording process. About six years ago I decided to form Rivercrest mix as a part of the Rivercrest creative group. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards/audio quality at an affordable price. If it’s your goal to make sure your project stands out above the noise let us help you make that dream a reality.. You can direct message us for more details. We would love to hear from you.

Earlier today I was having a conversation with a person that I would definitely put in that circle of my closest friends. This person is also a client that I am currently working with. The conversation made its way to the budgeting process for the project. After we finished talking about money I thought first, and then I said it’s interesting how easy this part of the discussion is, and how fun the rest of the work is once both of our expectations are clear. I began to reflect on this a few hours later thinking that this is not only true in a business relationship but also in most any other relationship as well. I encourage each of you to take a few minutes and make the extra effort to examine every relationship with this thought in mind. I know I will definitely be doing that.
It would be easy to think that all creativity would come to a sudden stop during a pandemic, but at Rivercrest Music that was not the case. It seems our work increased during this time. We also had to find ways to be creative concerning our workflow. Working remotely is not a problem. Let us help you achieve your creative goals.
