Staff at Pvt. John Allen NFH last month harvested Bluegill fingerlings and stocked them into Puskus, Curtis, Organ, Brents and Okhissa Lakes.

We find a way to make fishing better! Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery staff found a way to enable residents at a local nursing home to get a little fi...shing time in despite the COVID-19 pandemic. In past years, Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery has hosted fish events on site for disabled veterans but they were unable to sponsor any events this year because of safety concerns. Consequently, Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery purchased 9-foot stock tanks, gathered all the equipment they needed, harvested Channel Catfish from their rodeo pond, and transported the fish to the Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mississippi, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic on September 25, 2020 last month. We are happy to report 60 residents were able to participate in this tailor-made fishing event and the residents got a real thrill in catching their native channel catfish. There are a lot of unhappy lake sturgeon fans in Toledo, Ohio because the Toledo Zoo’s Annual Sturgeon Stocking event on the Maumee River was cancelled because ...of the Covid-19 pandemic. This event, which normally stocks 3,000 juvenile lake sturgeon into the Maumee River, was cancelled because of travel restrictions with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the closures at the Canadian borders, which prevented the collection of lake sturgeon eggs.
