Dear Sardis Baptist Church Family and Friends: Psalms 33:12 says. Blessed is the nation whose GOD is the Lord, the people He has chosen as his own inheritance. This will be our scripture this Sunday morning. As you might see, my title is ‘Blessed is the Nation’! This being July 4th, it is quite appropriate ! As I watch our country, seeing what it could be, then seeing what it has become, I feel, as we celebrate the founding of this country, that we seriously need to loo...k as what GOD has called us to be! The propaganda . that we hear daily, does not conform to what GOD is telling us! I plan to talk about our history and our future. GOD is still, and always will be in charge! Because we believe that, how do we act and react each day? Come and let us explore what his word says! Yours in Christ; Jim Newsome

Dear Sardis Baptist Church Family and Friends: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me! Interesting that we all note, that words CAN hurt us! What if you are given a nickname that you hate, but everyone calls you that? What if you like the nickname? In Scripture, we see people with nicknames. This Sunday, I am going to talk about three of them. ‘Son of Thunder’, ‘Rock’, and ‘ Son of Encouragement’. My title is ‘What Do People Call You?’ Our S...criptures are from Mark 3:17, John 2:42, and Acts 4:36. There are many reasons for nicknames, so what would you be called, if we had to make up a name for you? But, of more importance as a Christian, what would you like your nickname to be? I believe that we have a choice in this matter. How we live our lives each day, sets the tone for how people see us. When we are young, we may not have a choice in what we are called, but now in our lives.. we certainly do! Family night this coming Sunday night. Plan to come! Yours in Christ; Jim Newsome

Dear Sardis Baptist Church Family and Friends: We are having our Bible School this week and I love hearing the children saying, I did not think this would be fun, but it is! To see their faces, to know that they are learning about Jesus Christ, and to hear that some have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, is the greatest blessing!... Thanks to Tara and Chris for putting this together! Thank also to all the workers that have made this opportunity for these children to hear about Christ and learn of him! What a great week! I will be preaching this Sunday, about not only the opportunity we have been given, but also the responsibility that we have to teach our children! My topic is, ‘What Children Need!’ Our Scripture is from Joshua 4: 1-9. As parents and as a church, we have been taught that ‘ Jesus Loves the Little Children’ and that means we, as a church, must too! We do our best to feed, clothe, shelter, and care for their needs. But, we are Spiritual Creatures made by a Spiritual GOD, and we must care for their Spiritual lives also. Too often we do a good job with their physical needs and fall down in the most important area of their lives! So, I want to look at how we can be the ‘ The Parents’ we need to be, and ‘The Church’ we need to be! I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we worship our GOD! Yours in Christ; Jim Newsome

Dear Sardis Baptist Church Family and Friends: This coming Sunday and we will be celebrating the Lords Supper. I trust each one of you will want to attend! I am going to ask that you read 1 Corinthians 11: 27-32, before you come. We should always prepare to go into the presence of GOD, but we are often so busy we just do not make the time. But seriously, if you are going to meet GOD, don’t you think you would want to make preparation? We all will meet him face-to-face som...e day, but don’t we expect him to be in our worship of him also! He hit me with that reminder, earlier this week! So prepare, for we will start our service a little different this Sunday. We will begin with, for a lack of a lack of a better name, a time of decompression! To quietly prepare ourselves to meet and worship our GOD! I trust this will be pleasing to him! Because of Memorial Day, we will not have our regular evening services this week. Yours in Christ; Jim Newsome

Jeremiah Fry and Garston Townsend have completed their studies and we are pleased to honor them! Chris Townsend will be preaching for us and sharing a special message for our graduates, and us! We hope that you will be there to share the joy of their accomplishments and worship our GOD!... Last Sunday night we began our Family Night activities for the first time in over a year. I was very pleased at our crowd and as we again shared a meal and then met for our Mission Studies. Plan to come next month! This Sunday night, at 6:00 pm, we will have our Bible Study and Prayer time and again would love to see you there! Please keep your prayers going for those on our prayer list and any others that are on your list! These are trying times and we will not get through them without our GOD! See you Sunday! Yours in Christ Jim Newsome

Being old, I still have recorded in my mind the prophetic words of ‘Pogo the Possum’; We have met the enemy, and it is us! We, in the USA, and other places also, are in the third phase of GOD releasing us to our own sinful ways! Romans 1:28 says that he turns us over to a ‘ Reprobate or debased mind!’ That is happening, because we do not have him firmly, in the very center of our minds and hearts! We have pushed him out, to do things as we please! Great is our fall, fo...r looking through history, we are not the first to do this! PRAY!!!
