NOTICE ... Be advised that SBRC is now a smoke-free complex. This means there is no smoking in the common areas - at the pool - tennis courts - on the grounds or in the hallways of the buildings. Smoking is not allowed in most of the condos. Most allow smoking on the decks but you should ask to be sure, in advance..

SBRC dodged Dorian ... or Dorian dodged us. Either way is good. There is no damage to SBRC other than trash throughout the parking lot and a downed parking lot light post. We are feeling blessed this morning but still praying for the rest of the east coast. Dorian is not done.

Not a typical rescue scenario for Glynn County beach lifeguards, but today at approximately 5:15 pm over 50 pilot whales found themselves beached on Coast Guard... Beach, Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Beach lifeguards responded immediately and began dragging the whales back out to sea. After about two hours, collective public assistance, and direction from Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources, all whales were successfully removed from the beach and back at sea. Video/info courtesy: lifeguards_of_east_beach Make sure to click like or leave a message below to show your support for the efforts of the lifeguards and the many beachgoers who helped save the whales!

Turtle Nesting Season begins May 1 and ends October 31. We continually warn and caution guests that 'It's not nice to mess with the turtles". The sea turtles come in from the ocean beginning in May, make their nest in the dunes, and wait for their babies to hatch. These nests are usually marked with orange flags because the Marine Science Center employees, volunteers and everybody who lives on the beach watch over these nest all summer. Bright lights cause confusion to th...e turtles so it's requested that lights in the dune areas be turned off or very low after dusk. This little fellow was finally ready to make his way to the ocean ..... They will not make this trip in the light of day but normally from dusk (as in this video) through the night until before sunrise. Please respect these little guys and don't attempt to interfere with their journey. See more

We have an unusual critter (for us) wandering in the dunes today. We're pretty sure it's an Otter. 'Sources' say they have been seen in the Chimney Creek area. One suggested it's possibly a mink but it looks like the web feet win the debate for the otter.
