Dear Members, LIGHTNING DETECTION & CLUB POLICIES We are excited to have in place two new technology tools to enhance the experience at Savannah Golf Club. As a Board, our goal is to give the safest private club experience possible. The first tool is a lightning detection system from Earth Networks. This outdoor alerting system will notify members and staff when there has been a lightning strike within 6 miles of the club with one 15-second long h...orn blast. When a strike is detected, members, guests, and staff are required to seek shelter: Members, guests, and staff must cease play on the golf course and driving range, to seek shelter in the clubhouse or another grounded building. Members, guests, and staff at the pool must exit the pools and pool deck area, to seek shelter either in the clubhouse or under the pavilion. Members, guests, and staff on the tennis courts must cease play and seek shelter in the clubhouse. All other outdoor club and banquet events will move inside the clubhouse. For every strike detected within 6 miles, there is a 15-minute wait for the all club areas to be considered safe. When lightning has not been detected for 15 minutes, members and staff will be notified of the all clear through three short 5-second horn blasts. The weather station will aid Jordan and his team in golf course maintenance, and weather forecasting for other club events. The weather station date is currently displayed through a monitor on the golf shop counter. This takes the decision making out of the hands of staff and members, ensuring a safer environment. Please know that all members, guests, and staff are expected to follow this policy.
