Vaccinations for SPD and surrounding law enforcement began today starting with Chief Roy Minter. About 50 percent of the force have already signed up and more are expected as law enforcement vaccinations continue in the following days. Chief Minter said today that he sees the vaccinations as a ray of hope in this tragic and deadly virus. It has directly impacted our SPD family and continues to impact millions of others in the country.

NEWS RELEASE: SPD Investigating Jan. 8 Homicide on E. 39th Street SAVANNAH, GA (January 9, 2021) SPD is investigating the fatal stabbing of 51-year-old man that occurred Jan. 8 at E. 39th and Live Oak streets. Officers responded to the area around 6:45 p.m. and discovered Reginald Black suffering from injuries. He was transported to a hospital where he died as a result of apparent stab wounds. ... The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Anyone with additional information on this incident or any other violent crime incident should call SPD’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (912) 525-3124 or Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020. ENTERING AUTO ADVISORY SPD is seeing a increased number of entering autos recently in neighborhoods throughout the city. The subjects committing the incidents are both breaking into vehicles and entering unlocked vehicles. We are asking our citizens to lock your doors, remove all valuables (ESPECIALLY firearms), and keep an eye on your neighbors. If you see any unusual activity, call 911. Also, if you see any activity on you home security or doorbell cameras, please share this with us.

UPDATE (November 3, 2020): Monica Miller was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center Nov. 2 on charges of aggravated assault in connection to this investigation. Savannah Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance locating a woman wanted in connection to a shooting earlier this month. Officers responded to Yamacraw Village around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 1 and discovered an adult male victim suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to ...a hospital for treatment. During the course of the investigation, Monica Miller, 42, of Yamacraw Village, was identified as a suspect. Anyone with information on the incident or on Miller’s whereabouts is asked to contact detectives or CrimesStoppers. All month long, members of our Family Violence Unit visited different precincts during roll call as part of Operation Blue Curtain. What is Operation Blue Curtain? It is an initiative conducted by the FVU to help patrol reduce the amount of misdemeanor domestic violence incidents by increasing the arrests of DV offenders. Training such as this helps patrol officers effectively handle domestic violence calls. #DomesticViolenceAwarnessMonth
