1 year ago today our very own Territory Manager/Patient Advocate, Erik Pimentel was featured on stage at the #Oprah2020VisionTour in front of 14,000 people. Erik was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey where he spoke about his journey losing 100 pounds with WW (formerly Weight Watchers) as an amputee. I spoke about how WW helped me on my wellness journey and how Shamrock Prosthetics gave me the purpose in life that I was looking for. Working with other amputees and helping them Rei...nvent themselves is a dream job. Erik also got to meet his role model, Dwayne The Rock Johnson. We are so lucky to have such a passionate person like Erik on our team, who thrives to motivate and inspire his patients on a personal level daily. As Erik would say, No Excuses. #ShamrockStrong #ShamrockProsthetics #NoExcuses #Hope #Inspiration #Reinvention #Amputee #Prosthetics #BelowTheKneeAmputee See more

On August 16th, 2019, Amanda Phillips was involved in a car accident that resulted in a right below the knee amputation. Amanda met with Jennifer Leigh McCannon, Patient Advocate and Katy Giesken, LPO, CPO to discuss life after amputation. Despite her fear of the future, Amanda instantly felt motivated and inspired after seeing Jennifer living life to the fullest as an amputee. After waiting 6 months to fully heal due to numerous surgeries and infections, she finally took her... first steps in her new prosthesis. Amanda’s present goals are to walk without assistant and to live her best life with her new prosthesis. Katy continues to work with Amanda to achieve these goals. I love Katy, she listens to me and gives me great advice. Amanda wants every amputee to know to never give up! We are so happy to have Amanda Phillips apart of the Shamrock family. In September of 2020, Mike Hicks underwent a right below the knee amputation due to vascular issues in his right foot. Katy Giesken, LPO, CPO, has worked closely with Mike to ensure he is delivered a prosthesis that will allow him to do the activities and hobbies he was doing before amputation. Mike states, Shamrock Prosthetics has given me my life back. Katy and everyone at Shamrock Prosthetics have been awesome and supportive. With so much motivation to gain his independe...nce back, Mike is back on his feet ready to take on his new normal life. Mike’s goals are to get back to all his favorite hobbies such as, going camping, doing yard work, and showing cars. Mike was asked, What advice would you give to a new amputee? He replied, Be patient with the process and always listen to your Prosthetist when told what to do. Congratulations to Mike on delivery of his new prosthesis. December 27th, 2019, Jason Robinson was involved in a work-related accident which resulted in a right transhumeral amputation. While in the hospital Jason and his wife met with Steve Ehretsman, Founder and CEO and Erik Pimentel, Patient Advocate/Territory Rep, who spoke with him about life after amputation. Steve brought my family and I a sense of calmness and guidance. He had faith in me when I didn’t even know what to have faith in. Jason has worked closely with Clinical ...Director, Ryan Dougherty, CPO, LPO who has provided him with a Myoelectric Prosthetic Device. Jason continues to inspire others daily with his eagerness to Reinvent his quality of life to get back to tying his shoes, housework, and taking care of himself and family. Jason’s biggest motivation has been his wife and kids. I want to be a role model for my kids and show them no matter what life throws at you, you can always overcome challenges. Injured worker Jakari Cason has come a long way in such a short time since his accident back in May. The injury led to a below the knee amputation of his left leg but here he is just 4 months later putting in some major work during his latest physical therapy session. July 14, 2019, Nan McMahan was involved in a jet ski accident which resulted in the loss of not only her right leg above the knee, but her father. Despite the many challenges Nan has had to overcome, you never see her without a smile on her face. Her determination and positive attitude are admirable. Nan has been recognized for her hard work and perseverance in many ways, including winning Lakeside Highschool's Homecoming Queen and being recognized by Cheer Netflix’s cast for... encouraging team spirit. Shamrock's Clinical Director, Ryan Dougherty, CPO, LPO, has worked alongside Nan during her Reinvention to help her reach all her set goals. Nan's state of the art Ottobock X3 prosthetic device is completely waterproof which allows Nan to continue to participate in all the fun summer activities. Nan will be attending UGA this fall as she begins her journey to become an occupational therapist. She put the pedal to the metal and had grit and determination like she’s met every challenge at this point and she just did it. There hasn’t been anything she’s tried to do that she hasn’t been able to do, said Susan, Nan’s Mother. I don’t want to live my life in a story of defeat. But like the reality is and the great thing is that because of Jesus we are offered a story of victory. And we get to walk in that every day. That is the only reason I’ve been able to do so much. Even laying in a hospital bed being told I lost my dad and I lost my leg I never felt defeated, really and there’s nothing else that could have done that but God. And I am just so thankful for that, said Nan McMahan Steve Ehretsman #ShamrockStrong #AmputeeLife #ShamrockProsthetics #LowerExtremity #AboveKnee #ActiveAmputee #TraumaSurvivor #Ottobock #PatientCare #HomecomingQueen

Linda Hamm began to experience extreme pain in her left foot back in 2017. Her foot was highly infected, and it began to deform. She wore an external fixator for 3 months. Ms. Hamm was living in pain daily and it was not getting any better. One morning in the hospital my doctor told me, Ms. Hamm we have done all we could do to save your foot but unfortunately it is not working. We need to talk about amputation. I was so emotional that day. I began to pray. He said he wanted ...me to meet with someone from Shamrock Prosthetics to talk some more about it. The next day Linda met Erik Pimentel Patient Advocate/Territory Rep. I will never forget that day. Erik walked in and we spoke for a very long time. We were having a great conversation. Then suddenly, he lifts his pant leg and shows his prosthetic leg. I immediately began to cry, but tears of joy because I knew I was talking to the right person. I truly believe God sent him that day to talk to me and calm me down. I was ready to move on. The following day Linda underwent a below the knee amputation on her left leg. After healing up, Linda met with Tanner Jennings CPO LPO to discuss prosthesis options. On July 15th, she took her 1st steps on her new prosthetic leg. It felt great. Once again I cried tears of joy. Linda’s future goals are to do things on her own and not have to depend on someone to help her all the time. I want to go shopping on my own, go to my doctor’s appointments on my own. I want to start cooking for myself again. My son Kayon has helped me a lot and I appreciate him, but I need to do things without having to rely on him all the time. Kayon goes on to say, I believe if Erik did not go speak to my mother that day, she would still be crying in bed worried about her future. Now she is ready to do everything. When you talk with Linda, you cannot help but smile. She is so full of joy and prays God every chance she gets. God is the reason I’m still alive right now and have this new prosthetic leg and I’m going to show it off for everyone to see. I have 3 people in my life that I am thankful for; God is always number one, then comes my son (family), and then is Erik and Shamrock Prosthetics. Everyone at Shamrock has been so good to me from day one. I truly appreciate everything they have done for me. It is our pleasure Ms. Hamm. Welcome to the Shamrock family. Mr. Ponicki’s story begins in 1982 when he was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was rushed to a local trauma facility. Michael spent four months in the hospital trying to save his leg. He had a total of 16 surgeries. Unfortunately, after all those surgeries, his leg was not getting better and he had to undergo an above knee amputation on his left leg. Not only did I have to deal with all the physical pain, but I had to deal with the mental pain as well. I felt like less... of a man and unfortunately back then I turned to drugs. That time period of Michael’s life was not easy, but he was not about to give up. Eventually he moved forward and left the drugs behind. Over the past almost 40 years, Mr. Ponicki has had several prosthetic providers. Fast forward to 2019, Michael was having issues with his prosthesis and wanted to make a switch. His doctor recommended him to speak to Shamrock Prosthetics. A few days later he met Tanner Jennings CPO LPO and Erik Pimentel Patient Advocate/Territory Rep. That meeting went very well. Tanner went over a few options for me and having an amputee on staff like Erik is tremendous. One thing that Michael loved about working with Shamrock is that they presented options for him. The previous prosthetic providers he dealt with never did. I tried a couple of options. I admit to being a pain sometimes, but I know what works well for me and I have to credit Tanner for always keeping his cool for those appointments we had together. In May of 2020, Mr. Ponicki received his new prosthesis. I am so happy with my new leg. Working with Shamrock Prosthetics has been a real God send. That entire team is great. Being an amputee for so long, I have learned you cannot be afraid to speak up for what you want and work together with your prosthetist. The team at Shamrock promised to get me what I wanted, and they followed through. They have exceptional service and by far the best prosthetic provider I have dealt with. I am really happy. Michael’s experience in life has led him to want to help other amputees. He overcame a terrible motorcycle accident, which led to a drug addiction. But he has since moved forward and has had a very good life. Now he wants to give back. I think its amazing that Shamrock has so many amputees on staff because it means a lot to a patient to have that person to relate with. I want to volunteer my time to any amputee out there that needs help because I have been there, and it is not easy. But it can be done. Michael, you are an inspiration in so many ways. February 2020, Orlando Johnson developed an infection in his right leg. He was in so much pain and the infection was so bad that unfortunately he had to undergo an above knee amputation on his right leg. When my doctor told me that he needed to amputate my leg I was very emotional. But I really had no choice, so I said do what you have to do. His surgeon referred him to speak with Shamrock Prosthetics. The next day he met Erik Pimentel Patient Advocate/Territory Rep. I met... Erik when he came to see me in the hospital after my surgery. He really cheered me up because I was not doing well. Then he revealed to me that he was an amputee and that shook me. That is when I said, ok I have to do this. Mr. Johnson experienced a set back when he developed another infection but after he was fully healed, he met Katy Giesken CPO LPO to discuss prosthesis options. Katy was very nice to work with. She went over everything that I needed to know. July 6th, 2020, Orlando took his first steps in his new prosthesis. It felt great. I could not wait for that day to come and now it was here. Nothing is going to stop me now. Mr. Johnson is hoping to gain his strength back soon because he wants to get back to doing everything he once did. I want to cut the grass again and just get around the house a lot easier. Seems like simple goals but for a new amputee, being independent is a huge accomplishment. Orlando is willing to put in the work that it will take to live a normal life again. We have no doubt he will achieve those goals. Welcome to the Shamrock family Mr. Johnson. We at Shamrock Prosthetics love to hear when our patients are progressing. If you recall back in May we did a feature on the remarkable comeback story of Karen Costa. Well today we update you on how she is doing. She sent us this video of herself working hard at physical therapy. Practicing going down a flight of stairs and walking on uneven terrain. She is improving more everyday. She was also recently featured in a national newsletter for The Well Armed Woman shooting group she is a member of. Mrs. Costa is moving forward and not looking back. February of 2020, Chris Link began to get some swelling in his foot. April 10th, he woke up and could not walk at all. I thought he was having a stroke, his wife Wendy said. He was rushed to the hospital that morning. He was told that he had internal gangrene in his foot and was septic. I must have stepped on a nail or something and didn’t feel it due to my diabetic neuropathy and it just became worse. A guillotine surgery was performed to stop the infection. Unfortunatel...y, it did not work and three days later he underwent a below the knee amputation on his left leg. His surgeon recommended he speak to Steve Ehretsman Founder and CEO. Funny story, my wife and I use to drive by the Shamrock office all the time when we were in Athens and we use to see the building and call them lucky legs. So, when Steve came to see me, I was happy because it was like a good sign for me. I had no idea Steve was an amputee and we had a very good talk. After he left, I had to call my wife and tell her lucky legs came by today. A few days later Mr. Link and his wife Wendy met Erik Pimentel Patient Advocate/Territory Rep and Katy Giesken CPO LPO when they stopped by his home to follow up with him. Wendy goes on to say, I knew there was an amputee named Erik on their staff because I read about him but when I saw him step out his truck, walk up the stairs and walk in to our place with ease I said to myself, this must be another Erik because no way he is an amputee. But he was, it was amazing seeing him get around. That meeting with Erik and Katy helped a whole lot. Katy went over prosthesis options with Chris and once he was healed fully, he was ready to go. In June of 2020, Chris took his first steps on his new prosthesis. I was overwhelmed with joy. It felt a little funny to walk on at first, but it was amazing. I was excited all week waiting for that day. I could not wait to get back home to show my grandson. Mr. Link is now looking forward to getting back to doing the things he loves like fishing and tinkering around with his truck. Shamrock is top notch. I can not thank them enough. Working with Katy has been excellent. The entire team is amazing. The good Lord has been with me through a massive heart attack and now this and I am still here to talk about it. I just need to find out why. Mr. Link, we think you are still on this earth because you have a lot of living left to do. You will inspire many with your story. Welcome to the Shamrock family. April 30th, 2017, diesel mechanic David Roberts was working on a truck on the shoulder of I85 when he was hit by a car hauler trailer. Both legs were severely damaged, and he was rushed to a trauma facility. His right leg had to be amputated below the knee and he went through numerous limb salvage surgeries on his left leg. Unfortunately, in May of 2017 his left leg was amputated below the knee as well. When all was said and done, David had 13 surgeries, 6 months of IV antibi...Continue reading

Susan Hansen developed a diabetic ulcer on the bottom of her left foot which eventually led to gangrene. February 25th, 2020, she underwent limb salvage surgery. When she woke up from the surgery and looked at her foot, she was not happy. I looked down and I was not satisfied. I would not be able to get back to work and I would be fighting that infection for the rest of my life. I did not want that. Two days later Susan underwent another surgery but this time it was a below ...the knee amputation on her left leg. Her surgeon referred her to speak to Shamrock Prosthetics and the next day she met Erik Pimentel Patient Advocate/Territory Rep. The first thing I remember about that meeting was that Erik was very positive and upbeat that I would not only walk again but will get back to doing everything I use to do before my amputation. His attitude was infectious and that was even before I found out he was an amputee as well. Not only was I surprised but so were my kids who were in the room when I met with Erik. Susan’s daughter Ellen goes on to say, Most of the amputees I’ve seen in the past have had trouble walking, but seeing Erik get around so well not only helped my mother but helped us also. We couldn’t ask for a better person than Erik working with our mother. After some time to heal up, Ms. Hansen met with Katy Giesken CPO LPO to discuss prosthesis options. Katy not only explains everything to me, but she is also a great listener and observer. She is very good to work with also. In June of 2020, Susan took her first steps on her new prosthesis. I was very nervous at first because it felt weird, but after some time to take it all in, I felt one step closer to being normal again or my new normal. Susan has already achieved one of her goals by getting back to work. Her next goals are to be more independent with daily activities like walking her dogs or taking out the garbage. She has depended on her daughter a lot while she was recovering and is hoping to give her a break. Susan wants to thank the whole Shamrock team for always being so passionate and professional. If you would have told me after my surgery that I would be at this point walking and back to work, I would have had trouble believing it. But I remember Erik telling me all along it would happen and he was right. The key is to just be positive. It is very easy to feel sorry for yourself and it is alright to have a day like that. But the next day you need to pick yourself back up and move on. We could not have said it better ourselves Susan. Welcome to the Shamrock family.
