Happy Valentine's Day! Organized by the Springmont Parent Association, students created Valentines for seniors in our wider community. Creativity, seeing beyond oneself, and striving to have a positive impact on the world are all part of our school's culture and core values.

Tomorrow is the start of the Chinese Spring Festival and New Year, and today, parent Jing Liang and her son treated Livia's Lower Elementary class to a special Zoom presentation about the upcoming year of the Ox! We are thankful for our parent volunteers, the diversity of our school community, and opportunities to learn about and celebrate world cultures. Happy Lunar New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

What does individualized learning mean? At Springmont it means teachers that know each child well - not just academically but as a whole person. It means patience, careful guidance, and the gift of time that allows students to discover the wonders of language, mathematics, geography, and the sciences and how they are interrelated and relevant to the world.

We're so excited to have Elementary students visiting our library again! Media Center Specialist Leslie Wachter welcomes small groups of students each morning, providing expert guidance as they look for just the right books for reading or research. We are safely navigating the pandemic together!

We're getting excited about our International Night Drive-In Movie scheduled for February 19! We will be screening Born to be Wild, a 40-minute, family-friendly documentary about two dedicated animal preservationists narrated by Morgan Freeman. Fall gardening not only inspires curiosity and learning about how flowers and vegetables grow but it also provides physical activity, a sense of community and accomplishment, a connection with nature, and opportunities to develop responsibility and patience. And it's fun!

The moveable alphabet - what's that? It's is a brilliant Montessori material that allows children to start spelling out words long before they have the fine motor skills to write them. Writing your own words is a key part of the Montessori method of learning to read and write a kind of bridge between the two skills. Due to the dangerous winds and power outages spread around metro Atlanta, Springmont will cancel all classes (in person and at home) for today (Oct. 29). The safety of our students, families and staff is always our priority.

Toddlers work with their hands and learn best by doing. What they hear only, they may forget, but what they do they remember. Toddler parents are encouraged to join tonight's Parent Education event on Zoom to hear more about how Toddlers construct themselves by using their hands!

Chris' Lower Elementary Class enjoyed a Virtual Field Trip to the Museum of Design Atlanta last week. Students made and flew paper bats, measuring and graphing the distances flown. Combining physics, math and fun is not unusual at Springmont! #museumofdesignatlanta
