To the Highlands Church Community(about worship services in the month of May) I am so blessed to be a part of such a caring church community and consider it a privilege to be the pastor of Highlands. Despite all the social distancing measures that have been installed as a result of COVID-19, as a church, we have risen to the challenge of continuing to find meaningful ways to connect and do life and ministry together. We miss you. We miss being with you. We miss gatherin...g to laugh, worship, and eat together. We are so excited for those times to return. But we’ve also believed from the beginning that those times together are there, in great part, to fill and renew us to love and serve our community well. One of the ways we have been blessed to do that during this time of quarantine is through acting as an arm of the Atlanta Food Bank to get food to students in Marietta City Schools. Our space has continued to serve as a worship space as individuals and families have come in to worship Jesus by providing food to these families. We have committed to hosting the food bank in our church facility through the end of May. I believe it is within our best interest to love and honor our commitment to the schools and community by continuing to hold online worship services until the end of May. Highlands can take the hit on this one so that kids and families in our community can continue to get good quality food on a consistent basis. This is a decision that is both heartbreaking and heart building. It is heartbreaking because we long to be together. It is heart-building because our service is service. This is an opportunity for us to place our words of love for the community alongside action that reflects that love. I am so personally thankful to be a part of a community that believes God’s mission has a Church. You have helped provide clarity in something that could have been murkier. We will continue to evaluate all opportunities and situations going forward and communicate as things become clear beyond May.
