If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water. Loren Eiseley, American anthropologist, educator, philosopher, and natural science writer
Due to the pandemic, more people are opting for outdoor vacations. With our national parks being used more now, it is imperative that people pick up after themselves, and leave no trace! As that is not always the case, products like the Bandalong Litter Trap remove trash from water as another layer of protection to help our ocean's marine debris crisis. Amid pandemic boom, rangers grapple with excess litter, trail waste https://ecs.page.link/DwW8q
Plastic litter has increased by 165 percent since 1969. (Source: Keep America Beautiful 2009 National Litter Study) Things you can do to help: 1. Dispose of your trash correctly. 2. To do good, you actually have to do something. Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia At Storm Water Systems we ARE doing something to fight the war on trash and plastic making it to the oceans. The Bandalong Litter Trap removes floating trash and debris stopping it from reaching the ocean. Marine debris is a global threat and we are working with local communities to do our part. If your community could benefit from a Bandalong, let your local officials know about us! #stormwater #litter #plastic
The Proctor Creek Bandalong captured this trash in only ONE rain event. This litter trap stops floating litter from eventually reaching the ocean. If you think your community may benefit from a Bandalong let us know in the comments!

Where Kids Fought Plastic Pollutionand Won We had a sea turtle that had some internal blockage. For two and a half days we had to go inside the rectum of the sea turtle. We pulled out one piece of plastic after another. My role was to hold down her front flippers. Now, sea turtles have salt glands to protect their eyes from the sand, so it looks as if they’re crying. So while I’m holding down her fins, she’s crying and I’m crying. I’m saying to myself, I’ll never drop a pie...ce of plastic on the ground again. - Kristal Ambrose, environmental educator and founder of the Bahamas Plastic Movement #plastic Bahamas Plastic Movement #sustainability Where Kids Fought Plastic Pollutionand Won - Yes! The City of Griffin installed its first Bandalong in 2015 as part of a regional stormwater detention pond construction. This was a public/private partnership aimed at improving hydrology and capacity as well as cleaning up litter and trash in a large, urbanized watershed in the City. Each year City Stormwater employees collect well over 600 lbs. of floatable litter from this particular trap. This is a proven approach that’s been applied in other areas as well, Mandy Gunasekara, the EPA Chief of Staff, told The Star. So it’s good because we know that this works and it’ll help improve the environmental standing of that area. The Meridian Star https://www.meridianstar.com//article_f12ca032-f818-56fb-a
OverFlo Guard Takes On New Purpose! OverFlo Guard was developed, as a passive device to reduce surface flow in ponds and reservoirs to halt trash/debris buildup at vertical stand pipes used for surface discharge. OverFlo Guard is made of durable HDPE (high density polyethylene) floats around vertical stand pipes or structures freely, allowing water discharge from different levels of the water column.Storm Water Systems approached University of Georgia professors about usin...g OverFlo Guard to not only reduce trash/debris buildup at the vertical stand pipe, but allow mid-depth discharge and potentially improve water quality and return colder water to the creek below, thus improving fish habitat. Climate change combined with the release of warming surface water from impoundments destroys fish habitat. After one year of testing, results showed that OverFlo Guard could be extended to reach mid-depths elevations in the pond, and returning colder water to the stream below averaging 8-10 degrees colder in the summer and fall months than surface water that would have discharged without OverFlo Guard. OverFlo Guard has demonstrated it can return colder water to fish habitat, as well as eliminate surface accumulation of trash/debris at overflow pipe. Our next step is to develop a cold water return for dams... stay tuned. If you are interested in OverFlo Guard for trash/debris guard of overflow pipes or cold water return, email us at: [email protected]
