Hey friends if you’ve visited the park recently you’ve probably noticed the reservoir levels are low. Rightfully so, we’ve gotten a lot of questions about why the lake is lower than normal. There are a few factors at work, renovation of the spillway, lack of rain, and the city of East Point’s management. There is a valve the city opens and closes to regulate the levels. Recently the city opened the valve to keep, understandably, the levels below the construction project. We have notified the water department about the lake’s current level out of concern for the wildlife and health of the aquatic life. For any questions you might have, you can reach out to the East Point city manager’s office or East Point’s water department. https://www.eastpointcity.org/city-managers-office/

Don’t forget Sunday, 1 November, daylight savings ends. For those that visit the park routinely for hiking or exercising adjust your schedule accordingly. Just a reminder, the park closes at dark, which will be earlier with the end of daylight savings.

Pardon us while we clear leaves off of our trails. The leaves tend to hide tripping hazards like roots and rocks.

We, like much of the area yesterday sustained high winds and rain in the early hours of the morning. Rangers, some starting at 5am and ending at 7:30pm worked throughout the day clearing a number of fallen trees. We are aware there is still work to be done with more downed trees and will continue to make those areas safe for guests. All areas of the park are open, the trails to the mill ruins are clear. Our only reports of downed trees, so far, are on the orange trail and we will clear those soon. Thank you for your patience.

Saturday, 26 September, is your ‘State Park’s Day’, we’ve been extremely busy, as a local getaway this year we’ve seen a high number of visitors. So this Saturday we are looking for volunteers to help pick up litter around the lake. Volunteers will meet in the lake’s bait-shop parking lot at 10am. Trash-bags, *gloves (limited supply bring your own if you can) and trash pickers (limited number) will be available. CDC guidelines will be followed.
