As a student for five years, I recall the bell controlled the hours for everyone on campus. Those years were just before the significant breakthrough of electronics; the bell was the only communication from building to building. ... We did not even have telephones in the dorms, and as far as I know, there was no telephone in the high school building. There were phones in the President's Office and kitchen, both in the Willet Building. To get a message to someone, someone had to go and find that person. If a message ever needed to be sent to the entire school population, the bell had to do the ringing. Many times in my five years at TFS, it was part of my assignment to ring the bell. There was a lot of bell ringing. Just behind the Willet Building, the bell stood on its stone post, and nearby was a small building called the annex. It had a small apartment in it, and Coach Amick and his new bride lived there. Because there were no rules about the bell ringing, they were sometimes tortured by the bell ringing (we learned later). Some students would make it clang only a few times, but others...well, you can guess how industrious a teenager can be. When it was raining, the bell was rung so hard as to rest upside down, fill with water, and the next person to ring the bell got a dousing. When you realize that we did not have a hair dryer's luxury, the (bad) joke becomes greater. I'm sure others have stories and fond memories of the bell. Tallulah Falls School students, faculty and staff toured the new natatorium on December 11. The facility, nearly complete, features a 10-lane competition pool, locker rooms, concession and gathering areas and stunning views of Currahee Mountain to the southeast. Seating for up to 240 people is also installed and ready for 2021 events. The natatorium will be home to the TFS competitive swim team and used for physical education classes, including SCUBA, boating, and water-related safety courses. It will be open for recreational use for students, faculty and staff. Ron Cantrell Construction, Inc. of White County is spearheading the project, bringing to life the design of architect George Hlavenka of Hawaii.

A new initiative designed for students to sample a potential career is now available for members of the Class of 2021. The pilot Youth Apprenticeship program gives interested students a chance to delve deeper into an area of interest, according to Upper School Assistant Academic Dean Jim Van Hooser. ... This program is allowing our students to explore a potential career option which will help confirm what they are sincerely interested in pursuing post-graduate, Van Hooser says. This experience allows them to evaluate if this is a career they will pursue, thus potentially saving time, money and energy. From a school perspective, it allows us to build better community connections. Members of the took another important step toward graduation with the delivery of capstone speeches. Modifications to the process included having community judges serve as evaluators via Zoom and blended learning students speak from around the world using the same digital platform. In the midst of a year when everything seems off, it’s nice to celebrate the season with traditions that remain constant. One of those traditions is the annual ornament presented by long-time math teacher Linda Harris to faculty and staff. With the gift, she commemorates the year and her joy at being a part of the learning community. The sense of family among Tallulah Falls School faculty and staff is strong, Harris said.... She started the tradition in 1994, purchasing ornaments from a Christmas bazaar in Toccoa. Back then, Harris said, there were 56 employees. This year, she made 14 dozen ornaments to distribute across all school departments. The warm fuzzy I get from so many people is addictive, Harris said. Several people have shown me pictures of a TFS Christmas tree with the years of ornaments on it so many memories. Assistant Head of School David Chester, displays the ornaments on a tree in his office. Each year I look forward to receiving the Christmas ornament from Mrs. Harris. I have hung them on trees in the dorms, the middle school, my house and now in the Willet Building, Chester said. + ! Seniors currently enrolled in the Fall Senior Capstone course just completed a major milestone the Senior Capstone website. According to capstone teacher Dallas Barron, capstone students have been working on individual websites since the first week of school. On Thursday, Oct. 29 websites were sent out to judges. The website is one of the biggest components of the capstone project. To celebrate this accomplishment, seniors enjoyed cookies from Sugar...topia and other assorted goodies. We look forward to the completion of the Capstone project with speeches in December, Barron said. See more

Tallulah Falls School will be closed on Friday, October 30. Surrounding areas, including the TFS campus, are still experiencing widespread power outages, downed trees and road closures. There will be no virtual school tomorrow. The Halloween Social at the Upper School and the Fall Festival at the Middle School will be postponed. The plan is to reschedule for a later date. Coaches will be in contact with teams to communicate details about practice opportunities.

, Out of an abundance of caution, Tallulah Falls School will be closed on Thursday, October 29 due to the tropical storm warning that has been issued by the National Weather Service. We will assess any damage caused by the storm that may affect TFS and will inform you if there are any further changes to the schedule.

With construction nearing completion on the Tallulah Falls School natatorium, a newly hired aquatics professional is in place to launch the facility, slated to open in early 2021. ! Long-time TFS Dean of Students Jimmy Franklin loves the Twin Rivers Challenge! One of our biggest cheerleaders when it comes to supporting our students, he's been helping to raise funds and to generate excitement. He's so pumped about coming up on Saturday, Oct. 24 that he has worn a ride shirt each day this week. Here's a glimpse of Wednesday's version.
