At The Cottage, child clients have an opportunity to share their Trauma Narrative with their loved ones. This is a way for the child to express what has happened to them and for the whole family to have the opportunity to grow and heal in the wake of the trauma of child abuse. Most children choose to burn their trauma narratives, which symbolizes closure and empowerment. It is truly inspiring to witness a young person voice their experience and travel their own path of healing. Our specially trained staff assist and accompany them and their families every step of the way. If you or someone you know needs help in the wake of child abuse, call our 24/7 hotline: 877-363-1912.
Normally this time of year we would be gathering for our annual fundraiser, Unplugged for The Cottage! We miss the energy of being together @ Little Kings Shuffle Club with Jeremy Dyson behind the bar and so many Friends all in one place to show their support of the work we do. Local musicians would be playing, we'd be eating food from generous local restaurants, bidding on the silent auction and testing our luck at the Cork Pull. In lieu of being together this year, we're ...bringing a little music to you from local musician, artist and teacher Ty Manning! Ty Manning and the Slawdog Biscuits have played Unplugged For The Cottage several times and we're so grateful for their support. We miss you all and wish we could be together. If you feel so inclined to take that money you might have spent on a ticket or an auciton item at our event, and donate it to our work at The Cottage, that would be awesome. Your donation helps us continue our work providing accompaniment to people in our community who have experienced sexual assault or child abuse, as they navigate the reporting, investigating and healing process. Donate online here: https://northgeorgiacottage.networkforgood.com//72727-frie Thank you Ty for your sweet video!
Notes like these to The Cottage staff are what keep us going on our mission to help facilitate healing for survivors of child abuse and sexual assault.
Thank you, United Way of Northeast Georgia for coordinating volunteers for your Day of Caring and sending some great ones to The Cottage! We appreciate the hard work those volunteers put in clearing branches, spreading mulch and pressure washing our storage shed!
Thank you to the participants in last night's free (virtual) Protecting Our Children training with The Cottage's Lori Karr! If you'd like to participate in the next free training, November 14th from 10-11:30am, register by November 9th by emailing Lori at [email protected]. Protecting Our Children is a training that gives parents and caregivers the tools to be better informed about the prevalence, indicators and reporting of child sexual abuse. Lori has over a decade of experience working at The Cottage with children and families impacted by child abuse and has conducted this training with many groups. This particular training will also focus on children learning in pods, child on child abuse and social media safety.
To participate in the November 14th training, please sign-up by November 9th. Any interested adults are welcome to participate. It takes ALL of us to stop child sexual abuse. Will you do your part to keep our kids safe?
Thanks to donors like Deirdre (AKA DeeDee) our Friends of The Cottage giving program provides the sustaining support we need to meet our mission: to raise awareness and facilitate healing for individuals, families and communities affected by sexual violence and child abuse. Friends funds are used to provide 24/7 advocacy and accompaniment to those in our community who experience sexual assault and chose to have a medical exam or report to law enforcement and to parents and children going through the child abuse reporting process. Thank you, Deirdre for your long-standing and sustaining support! If you want to become a Friend of The Cottage go to: https://northgeorgiacottage.networkforgood.com//72727-frie

Repost from @lucialitman thanks for the reminder!
Enjoy this made-just-for-us video from long-time The Cottage supporters Adam Payne and Scotty Nicholson from dangfly! in their diet covid-fly form (shout out to other band members Adam Poulin, Jay Rodgers and Shawn Johnson!). These fine folks have played our annual Unplugged for The Cottage event for years, donating their time to help raise money for survivors of sexual assault and child abuse. Thanks fellas for all your support! This time of year we would be gathering togeth...er for Unplugged and we so miss seeing all of your smiling faces. If you are able, perhaps you'll take that twenty bucks you would have spent on a ticket, or that hundred bucks you would have spent on an auction item and make a donation to The Cottage. We now have Venmo: @ cottagesac_cac to make it even easier! If you want to provide sustaining support to The Cottage, become a Friend of The Cottage by donating $10 a month to help us meet our mission to raise awareness and facilitate the healing of individuals, families and communities affected by sexual violence and child abuse. You can see more about our Friends giving program and donate on our website here: https://northgeorgiacottage.networkforgood.com//72727-frie or via Facebook by clicking the DONATE button!
